Welcome to the MO Board. We are friendly and full of information for you. Please send us some questions. I had Lap RNY 12/26/06 and have lost 114 pounds, 3 below my doctors goal. I am 63 years old and feel better than I have in years. I had type II diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, not to mention urinary incontinence and other fun stuff. I took my last diabetes medication the day before surgery - the same with the HBP and high cholesterol meds. I have had a complication free surgery - but I am compulsive and I followed the rules completely for at least 8 months. I lost to my goal in 10 months and have maintained for the past 4 months. I would have this surgery annually if that's what it took to keep myself diabetes free. It is a drastic lifestyle-changing surgery and you need to prepare for it by reading everything you can on the web and by asking lots of questions. You have to change your relationship with food - it is no longer your friend, comforter or entertainment. It's just what you need to stay alive and be healthy. For most of us drinking protein drinks is not a question of whether we like them or not - it's what we have to do to be healthy and feel strong. Having an optimistic attitude is helpful - I just knew I'd be fine and do great at this. I also have rheumatoid arthritis and my doctor believes getting weight off my knees, ankles and feet is important for my mobility. The main thing you need to remember is that you can do this and that you are not sacrificing anything. You are getting back your life and becoming a healthy in control person. Good luck.

Hello and thank you all for welcoming me into this amazing group of people. I am very interested in RNY surgery. I have a BMI of 42 and I need help. I have been on all the diets known to man. I lost weight with WW however once I went off of it and then could not afford the increase in weekly meetings I gained it all back and then some. I have metabolic syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome and a pancrease that does not shut off. I was told to take byetta for the sugar issues however I need to take a allergy med to stop allergic reactions to the med. I know this will be a total life change and I am ready. I am a mother of twins girls and I want to live as long as I can for me and them. Not to mention I dont want full blown diabetes. Does hte surgery hurt? I am going through Doctor Phillip Hornbostel in sedalia. Is he any good? I called and they all swear by him at his office. I hope to have this surgery and need as much info as possible. Thank you all.
