Hi  all, I usually post (not very often) on the Kansas site. but they just don't seem very active and since I am going to Sedalia, for my surgery I thought I would ask here,. My appt. is march 24 for my pre op appt, (my surgery is april 7 roux en y), soo excited AND nervous) What should I expect ? do I have to undress? sounds stupid but I am pretty modest...o.k embarassed!,  what do they do?It seems like I have to see alot of differen't people! also I am trying to find the slimfast high protein, Margie said it has to have 18 g protein, but they (walmart or walgreens) didn't have the high pro. so I bought the boost , but they were only 8 oz. compared to 11 oz. of slimfast!! 2 wk.s of a liquid diet 3 oz. will sure add up in the hunger department!  OH, one more thing, I am very worried about! I like to drink ALOT I am alway's thirsty, after the surgery, I know we have to SIP that is so scary to me, I feel like I am going to go through the rest of my life thirsty!, I don't think I could bear it! if any of you can answer my laundry list of questions, concerns, I sure would appreciate it, thank you

Congrats on getting a surgery date! No, you dont have to undress for Dr. H. It's really informal --- for my pre op appt I was there for maybe 30 minutes. Mostly it's paper work regarding medical history. And you'll get a three ring binder full of information for pre and post op life. Study it a lot before surgery--- any questions you could ever think of can be answered in this three ring binder book. Yes --- you will be very hungry during the two week liquid diet. Stock up on jello and crystal light (I like the Walmart brand --- better taste and cheaper too) now -- it'll help curb your head hunger. Yes --- Right after surgery you have to do small sips but as time goes by you can do bigger  and bigger sips --- just dont gulp --- the added air to your pouch feels very uncomfortable. Heads up ---   during the first two weeks or so after surgery it'll feel weird to even take a baby sip. You'll be able to feel every little drop of water hit your stomach. It's not painful so dont worry --- it's just odd because you are REALLY aware of each tiny sip. Best of Luck ---And again ---- study the binder Dr. H gives you and keep it near you right after surgery.

Do you know if Boost high protein is an approved drink before surg from Dr. H?

Yep, That's what my paper from the nurse at Dr, H office said.  Boost glucouse control, it is 16 g. protein, I didn't find anything with 18.
