WHATS HAPPENING FOR WEDNESDAY (AGAIN) LOL

Don’t know what is going on with Joe and I but both of us woke up Tuesday morning dragging, Joe was really sick not knowing which end to put in or on the toilet lol About all we did was sleep all day. It was so pretty outside that I got my outside lounge chair out into the sun , it was 73 at the time. And slept in the sun oh it felt so so good, seemed to re-energize me some. .

I did get all 3 of my protein shakes in and all my water but that was it nothing else for sure so I decided I would do the 5 day pouch reset thing since I already have day one down lol.  Now all I have to do is tomorrow like this and then can start adding to it on the 3 day. Is suppose to re set your pouch to be more aware of the feeling of fullness , we will see.

Boy the board has been busy today. That is great. Been a long time since I have seen that much going on.

Monday night at the meeting several people brought the protein bars they use and we all had a taste test, I think there were some there that were really good. Better tasting than mine but not as many grams of protein but like I said probably better tasting. Mine and the same ones that Lana uses too is 42 grams of protein per  bar. Quite a lot.

Glenna what was the name of the wafer type bars you brought? I like them and where do you get them? I would like to have some of them to use in between sometimes for a different taste.

I am really ready for bed tonight so im going to get this all done and go to bed maybe both of us will feel better tomorrow. Sure do hope so since it is suppose to be pretty again.

SHEILA: ummmmm don’t know what to say to you girl. I was really wanting to see you. Really did miss you sweetie, guess I cant stay too mad at you. Is your back still hurting you as much as before you lost some weight?  Looks like you are losing really well.

Are you getting all your protein in yet? You really need to get some sort of protein shake to drink to be able to get it in since anything we eat you only get 50 percent of that so if you are getting 50 grams of protein from some meat then really you are only using about 25 grams that is why you need the protein shakes. You get all of the protein in them.

You can go to a GNC and ask for the premixed Isoprue yourself and buy a bottle of it. One bottle is like 42 grams of protein I think and one bottle isnt that expensive. So go for it and try it , you might really like that.

What matters most is that you get it in, doesn’t really matter if you love it or not just that you can stand it enough to swallow it.

TRACI: yes wait quite a bit longer before you plant anything, like at least another month. It was sure pretty today tho wasn’t it?

Don’t know if anyone listened about the protein shakes or not , I think a lot of people and doctors included are thinking that you really can get all of your protein in food but the only way you could do that is if you ate like you did before you had surgery.

I don’t think a lot of people really think that they have to do all of this for the rest of their life. Just for awhile and then it will all be just all normal. Like I told them last night we aren’t normal and will never be normal again we are Hybrids….a different species. So we have to be fed different.

JANET: sweetie you are in my prayers that you get to start on getting some things done. Where are you having all of your stuff done at? By stuff I mean the GB surgery and the other things. I sure hope you get some relief. I think you have had some major pains from several different sources but they all hurt so badly that you cant separate them. I know that Gall Bladder pain can involve the whole body in pain. It will hurt in the back as much as in the stomach. So that gotten out may ease a lot of your back pain even and if you are having pain from your female organs that can cause a lot of pain in the back too. So you are being hit by a triple edge sword. Each one with their own sort of horrible pain.

How awful on your mom to find someone dead in their room. I know it probably freaked her out .

Oh my lord woman you burnt your back with the hot pad? You must have had it turned as hot as it would go for a long time. Believe me I pray for you several times a day. I am asking God to put someone in your path that can do something for your pain and give you the relief that you so desperately need.

BEV: Are you doing better now? You must be your checking out how to cook for yourself now and learning it isnt a whole lot different , just changing a few items around , so you aren’t using sugar, and cooking healthier.

Some of your recipes look really good . I don’t cook that much but when I do I try to do something that is healthy and not adding a lot of junk in it. I use to think to cook healthy you had to have your food come out tasting like cardboard but really it has a much better flavor not drowning in grease or sugar or something else bad.

66 pounds that is amazing great going girl.

Really try and go to the support groups a person really needs that support that you get face to face.

Will help you succeed too

CONNIE: wow you look amazing girl. And congradulations on the new job. That is really great. Proud of you.

Lol I have always had curly hair but always tried to make it straighter cause I thought I didn’t like it really , when I started losing my hair I sort of liked it because with my hair thiner I was able to make it even straighter but when it came back in it came it thicker and curlier than it ever was before. So I told my hair dresser to cut it in a way that it would control the curl but let it be curly and she did and now I really like it . I have had more compliments on my hair since I started letting it be just its natural curly self than I ever had when I was trying to make it straight (and failing )

On your new job what will you be doing exactly? Sounds interesting.

COLETTE:  That is so sad about your hubbys health. As nurses we can see the bigger picture too when a loved one is sick and it really hurts our hearts. Know that You and Mel are in my prayers  You are a very special lady to me so hang in there and take good care of your man. He is one of Gods special people as you are too.

TAMMY  V: LOL  to me 44 is a child. Lol  I was a grandma by 40 also. Liked a couple of months being 40 when my first grandbaby was born. Cant believe that they are all grown and having babies now too.

Thanks for putting more pictures in your profile. I wish everyone would . would make it seem like we knew them better . and to write their story in their profile would be nice too.

The B=12 will make you feel so much better. Were you surprised about how cheap the b-12 is? I do two shots a month, wont hurt anything if you get too much in your system you just pee it out so wont hurt you.

Yeah I cant wait to see your new pictures….i bet we will be able to really tell the difference.

TAMMY H: I saw the pictures of the Cape and Memphis too. That was awful I never thought it was that bad but man it is horrible.

The best thing for shade is Hostas, Astilbes, lilly of the valley, you could put some black elephant ears in there too. They like shade and ferns also like shade.  All of these things will come back year after year. And keep getting bigger and better looking , Now for some color in the front of the bed along the edges you could plant a couple of rows of Impatients. They come in all colors. And are easy to grow and very pretty.

Just plant your flowers back of and in front of the drip line of the roof. Not directly under the drip line as it will beat them up.

You are always in my prayers so I will just up the amount so that God will help you control your food intake.

AND QUIT FOR HEAVENS SAKE DRINKING MR PIBB. What are you thinking ? do you want to gain back everything you have lost? ? ???????????? I don’t know why your doctor didn’t do the gastric bypass on your. My friend in Ga. had GB and she weighted 450 pounds when she went into surgery and had it lap. Too .

I sure hope we get to have our Reunion again this year. Maybe after Janet has all of this stuff done she will feel better and able to continue on with it. I know a lot of us will be willing to help .

Well going to go to bed Hope you all have another good Wednesday since that is what I thought yesterday was lol goofy me

LOVE YOU ALL

GOD BLESS

Morning everyone Yay!  We get to do Wednesday over!    I didn't sleep well last night, I was almost asleep, then hubby called around 11pm saying he had to work late as the next shift guy didn't come in.  Well, that was just enough to wake me back up and get my mind turned on again and I couldn't really get back to sleep after that.  So I finally got up with a migraine at 5am when he finally arrived home.   I've got my grandbaby today too.  It's gonna be a long day. Jan:  on the protein shakes vs. food protein.  We no longer have the ability to break down and absorb protein from food (i.e. meat, most especially) at all!!!  We are not going to absorb 50% of food protein from meat - we may not absorb any; because we can't break it down and digest it.  I wish we had the ability to pin posts here, as I know what I typed out before is long buried; but basically a normal digestive system digests protein in the stomach using the hydrochloric acid, pepsinogen, pancreatic enzymes and normal stomach churning, which takes several hours in the stomach, and then on to the small intestine where it travels through several feet where it is absorbed into the body as it passes through.   All of the stomach and enzymes and churning process that breaks down the protein into the usable form needed for digestion are GONE for us.  We no longer have that at all.   Gone too, are about 5 feet or so of small intestine.  So what we end up with is a much, MUCH shorter small intestine that gets a little bit of pancreatic enzymes redirected and dumped in there - that's all we get for our total protein breakdown and digestion.  No way - no how that's gonna cut it.  This is why protein shakes are needed.  This is why they are a MUST, not a meal replacement, not a "if you can find one you think tastes good" thing - it's a nutritional NEED that you absolutely must have and basic biology and our newly designed malabsorptive digestive systems are proof that we do need them.   Our problem with protein isn't that we don't absorb it - it's that we can't even break it down and digest it.  We mal-digest protein.  Basic biology 101 and a look at the anatomy of our new digestive systems is proof of that.  Well, gotta scoot.  Have a great day everyone!!

Good morning Traci, I was wondering if we are not able to digest protein from food, then  how in the world will we be able to digest it from a protein shake or such.  I gather that protein is almost 75% digested in the gut and the liquid form then gets further absorbed in the top and lower 1/3 section of the small intestine.  Thus if we purred protein, had it in a baby food form  would that not pass as a protein shake would.  I have a friend who has had the MGB ( mini gastric bypass not approved by the FDA yet) she eats meat and says the protein is necessary and gets hers from food and plus a powder she places into gatorade.  Plus why a "diet shake"  I don't get it.  Please help me understand better.  I am a nurse and have went over my anatome and physiology books trying to figure out how to increase protein and have it absorbed.  I have not even had surgery yet, however I like to be well iinformed about everythiing.  Have a great day. Protein shakes contain protein that is pre-digested; meaning it's already broken down into the form in which we need it to be for our bodies to just absorb it.  Just mushing it up is only a mechanical process - it does nothing for the chemical process that needs to occur with protein in order for our bodies to actually absorb it.  Our bodies need to break down the protein into amino acids in order for them to be absorbed.  Protein is very tough and there's a variety of enzymes and processes that are used in order to get the job done.  In our post-op bodies, this job is nearly impossible through food alone (speaking of protein here), because in order for protein to be absorbed it must be converted into usable peptides and amino acids.   Also, consider,  the majority of that absorption occurs in the first 12-18 inches of the small intestine - which has been bypassed in the RNY patient!  Any food not properly digested is passed out of the body as waste.  We no longer have the 'plumbing' in place to do the job as we did as a pre-op; this is the mal-absorption part of our surgery, and in the case of protein - really more a mal-digestion, which is why pre-digested protein shakes are a critically important nutritional supplement that we need every day for the rest of our lives.

Dear Jan and OH Peeps~ I so hope your feeling better Jan and Joe!! Keep us posted. I said extra prayers for you and will continue to do so. Yesterday for an hour or so-I was really sick as well. Thought for sure I was going to end up with the horrible flu. Thank goodness it went away an hour later-I wouldnt have been able to attend my class or anything had I stayed like I was. I was in the bathroom every 5 minutes for an hour!! Had an interesting day/evening. Had my first night of Hunter Safety course. 3 instructors-2 were telling us-this may be on the test or that may be-but the 3rd one-name Larry (the big wig)-he doesnt give you ANY hints-AND he doesnt care what happens-he will NOT pass you just to have x amt of people pass his class. He says that out of the 40 in the class-that 2 of us will have a hunting accident due to carelessness-and his only concern is to teach us how to be ethical and safe. Period.  He has this shotgun made of wood-and if he points it at you at any time and you dont say "Please dont point your gun at me"-you are out! My SIL Aaron is going as well-and we both agreed that Larry reminds us of Mike-the things he says and does. Which, dont get me wrong-I am extremeley happy that Mike is all about safety-but it also makes me nervous. Like, on Friday-we have to handle a shotgun properly, in front of class (they are welded etc-so no ammo can be put in etc) anyway-in front of class and IF you make a mistake-your out. Thank goodness I have been practicing, or I would fail on Friday for sure.  Aaron is not hunting with a gun, he is using bow and arrow-and Mike uses crossbow due to his shoulder surgery and permanent weights etc placed there-he cannot shoot a shotgun. Im extremely nervous about Friday-jus****ch, I will be the person who drops the gun or whatever. Dang. With only 2 women in class-I dont want to be one that messes up!! Heck, there are more kids/teens in there than women. We are definitely the minority in this class. I had put a check for propane out under the lid for the delivery guy. When we got home from picking Steph up from art club, there was no propane and the check for 230.80 was not there. WE have lived here going on 5 years and this has never happened before.  Guess what? It blew back to the man lodge-which is the building BEHIND the garage and propane tank-and lodged itself in the side door! Thank God we found it-and so I had to call them first thing this morning-because we are almost out of propane and we arent quite ready to leave the heater off for the year yet. I WISH! He had come out to deliver our propane, but figured we forgot to leave the ck for him, so he left. Darn it!! He wouldve never found it, had he looked!! Its an Eeyore day out here today. Calling for rain/thunderstorms. Which is WHY I am hurting so badly. I really didnt think I was going to make it through class-3 1/2 hrs long! He gives us a 10 minute break every chapter-so that helped some. So I have it tonite and then Friday-each for the same amt of time!! Its really a nice place there-brand new-its the Wildcat Park Conservation and Audobon building-and its just fantastic-they have huge aquariums filled with beautiful fish, birds and wildlife-its just really nice and I am going to take the boys out there soon, they will love it! Well, I made the mistake of letting Steph drive home after I picked her up at school. When she got ready to turn onto V Hwy (the one we call death highway due to all the hills and corners etc and people going over the yellow line cause accidents all the time) anyway-she turned so wide and so fast that my drink, which was in the cup holder right under the stereo-came out of its holder (not easy to do since it was a can and fit perfectly) and flew across her and landed on her shoe- I screamed like a sissy and then I yelled at her, which made her nervous. I told her that IF she doesnt start listening to me-that I will NOT allow her to get her license until she is 18. I will not sign for it - and I will make sure that they know she didnt get her hours in.  She did A LOT better when she made the turn on our road and into our driveway. Have my fur grandson today while Meg is at school and Aaron is at his management class. So, of course-Jon, who started getting over his cough and cold etc-is running after Biscuit n then has a coughing spell. I now have the furbaby on his leash-so he has to stay with me-while Jon is eating his cereal, and whining like I am hurting him-LOL.... **Jan, I know I have a triple edged sword right now-and yes, the gb and female problems ALWAYS make my back worse-and then the weather-it just reaks havic on me.  I am wondering something-if you have Degenerative Disc Disease and you have surgery-you have 8 discs fused and 2 rods placed in your back and then I will have those 2 cysts removed from my spine-then they are going to have to do something with the siatic nerve-ok, well-when I researched all of this-of course the discs that get fused arent going to deteriorate again-but the others can, the ones that dont get fused-so I am really looking at more than one back surgery in my lifetime-and that thought just scares the crap out of me. I am going to check and see if I can get my apron removed when I go for my D & C or hysterectomy-may as well do it at the same time since I will already be on the table. Medicare is very strict on HOW they pay for procedures etc-so I know it will have to be approved beforehand-thats ok-just want it done at the same time IF I can.  Have you ever heard of Dr. Newmans in Springfield? He does nerve burning?  Who do you and Joe see for that?  Mel saw a Dr. Clark there-but he said that he didnt think it would help her. My ortho here says that there is nothing to lose if it doesnt work for very long, but if it does-then it will buy me some much needed time to get some other things done and get a little further out weight loss wise-in case I gain some in the recovery period, which they are saying 8-12 weeks. I dont even like to think of anything taking that long to heal....YIKES! **Connie-thank you-and I miss you too! Congrats on your weight loss so far and your new job! I am so happy for you!!!~ I really hope to see you next month at the group. I cant promise anything, but I sure would like to see you guys soon!!! **Colette-I will say prayers for your hubby and yourself. I hope tjhat he feels better soon! **I would like to ask for prayer-for Mels mom, Theresa-that God gives her strength and peace of mind. For her family, for the same. For Mel and her hubby to get done with this adoption situation so the brother will leave them alone finally-and finally, for me-and my health. Thank you. I appreciate it. To all newbies and preops-hang in there. I pray for all of you-that you have strength and peace of mind!  To everyone else-as always, your in my thoughts and prayers. Take care, Janet

Hey OH Board, Today was the staff meeting at work and it was nice to get a heads up on what I'll be doing. It's going to be interesting to say the least. Jan: As far as what I'll be doing....well, mostly getting paid to do what I do at home. There are 12 girls and 4 to 5 of us staff. We'll be helping them relearn how to cope with anger, depression  and just the basics of childhood that they didn't get at home, due to abuse. I'll take trips for dr. appts. fun times, play games, talk. It's a 12 1/2 hr. shift on a rotating week and I love the schedule.  I'm really happy to finally get started.  I'm sorry you and Joe don't feel well. I've had  a sinus infection for about a week and it just won't go away.Glad to hear your feeling better. Janet: Thanks for the e-mail on the name change. That was fun and now my kids are doing it for all their friends.LOL  You all take care and be safe. Connie

Hello Missouri,
Sheila - I used to mix vanilla protein powder, instant de-caf, ff 1/2 and 1/2 and HO****er and make a latte and it tasted good to me in the winter. And, I do like the Unjury chicken broth flavor - I add dried parsley and some pepper and the only negative is you can't have really HO****er or it curdles - just ho****er from the tap.
To all the rest of you - I had the nuclear bone scan yesterday and haven't heard the results yet but I'm so glad to have it completed. Hope they can pin a definite name on this latest episode of joint pain. I'm just sure it's rheumatoid but they have to rule out everything else I guess.
I love you all and am so proud to know each of you. You are family to me and I pray for all of you daily (or nightly). I promise when I get pain relief I'll be better about posting to everyone.
Hugs and loveys,
Lana
