I know I sure ask alot of questions... hope noone minds....If it isn't bad enough to have a migraine which I finally got rid of about an hour ago and now I am having problems with my back and goes down my right leg. I cant stand up straight, I had to walk all hunched over to go to the bathroom. I have spasm's like these pretty reg. sometimes 2-3x a week. Sometimes not as often. I have a big chest and with weight gain I think it has caused problems with my back, does anyone have this same problem? I am 90% sure once I have my wls it should help with this pain. I sure hope so! I do the hotpad with the moist/dry heat, muscle relaxers and pain pills and I still have pain. does anyone know what else i can do? the pain sometimes prevents me from exercising and that what i would rather be doing. thanks!~Lo

Thanks for the input! Aww how cool u are from here too! I think I have a ride which I offered to chip in for gas for the trip to the Support Group. We all know how gas prices are killing us!! I am going to give my PCP a call tomorrow. In the mean time, I found some pain pills I had left over from my hysterectomy last Sept. I called the Pharmacy and they said they are fine to take with my flexeril ( muscle relaxer ) so that is what I am doing right as I type this . Hoping they will kick in soon. I cant even stand straight up, I look like a hunch back. :) But, I would not want to have back surgery. It took a long time for me to accept the fact the WLS was the way for me to go. I have a hard time working out or even walking on my treadmill due to knee and back pain. But, hopefully it will be better once I have the surgery.

I agree with Jan that it is the sciatic nerve being pinched...classic presentation.  I also agree with the last lady that treating it is one thing...finding out the cause is another.  It could be your weight in general...or your weight may have caused some damage that can be fixed or could get worse if left unattended.  I have know people to have traction treatment from chiropractors that is very beneficial...it releases the pressure off the nerve and eventually the body learns to realign and stay off it...i didn't used to think chiropractors were worth a darn, but i think they have come a long way in their practice and education.  Bottom line is pain always means something is wrong....whether you choose to see your pcp or chiropractor you should see someone.  Best wishes....

sounds like you have the sicatia nerve pinched , it is pretty common when you are overweight like we all were or are. Im sorry you are in so much pain,. the things you are doing is about all that can be done at this point, You probably will have less of it when you lose weight but it may still hurt you then too. whenmine use to hurt the heating pad and laying on back with feet proped up in the air helped better than any thing else,.  If the pain keeps hurting you plese go to your doctor there could be something that can be done to give you some relief till you have your surgery. We will all be praying for you.

Lo   Hey neighbor, My advice is (and it is just that advice) that if it keeps bothering you. Get to your doctor and get it checked out. It would be better safe then sorry. I had WLS almost 2 yrs ago and never had 1 problem with my back. Now that is 1 of my MAJOR complaints. I have 5 ruptured disk, and gerniated disk, and the lower too have deterated so back. That surgery is in the furture for me. They want to place a steel rod in my back w screws. I'm not telling you this to scare you by no means. But I wish I would of had some warning signs that my back was getting bad. Please keep us posted on what you find out okay. Drop me a line sometime and if you would like to go to the support meeting that is in Springfield. We would enjoy haveing another person to carpool with us. I usually drive my car and we just share gas. and stay after the meeting to visit with everyone. Take Care Mel
