I love this place I can vent anytime I need to...and today I need to. I am so frustrated..yesterday I got an envelope from the surgeon's office with paperwork saying I have to do 6 months supervised dieting -  which is okay by itself  I have no problem doing it - but in order to have the surgery done with the surgeon I have I also have to lose 60 lbs ( he won't do the surgery on anyone whose bmi is over 60) so if the insurance company sees me doing the 6 month supervised thing and losing 60 lbs what if they deny me based on that??  I am so close to finding another surgeon, I would be willing to pay to have my medical records transferred again to another doctor if it meant I could move on with this process. I realize I am still about 5 months out as far as the supervised diet goes but...ugh! if it wasn't so hard to find a surgeon covered by my insurance ( humana) they require and in network doctor that does the procedure in a hospital instead of a surgical facility I have thought about checking with dr Price that I see a lot of people on here are with or dr Hornbastel? I see a lot of you with...uuuugh!!! just fully frustrated today. any advice??

They will not deny you for losing weight on the required diet.  Part of the reason they require all those months of diet is to ensure you can and will follow the dietary restrictions so that the surgery will not be a waste of money.  By losing the weight you prove to them you are serious about this.  My insurance only required 3 months, and I lost 28 pounds during that time.  Aetna did not give me any problems about it and I will be banded tomorrow. Follow your doctors instructions to the T and you'll do great. Good luck!

I am partial to Dr Hornbostel myself and i saw someone post on here before that he will do a bmi over 60 but don't quote me on that....it is safer for you to lose some weight and your insurance co will be interested to see if you can comply with the regimen before they spend money on you....if you are concerned about meeting the 60 pound criteria i would research another physician, but i would do it now.  Any changes could delay you further...you will still have to do the 6 month thing because your insurance requires it, but at least you wouldn't have to worry about the 60 pound thing on top of it....just my opinion.....

Dr H just wants you to whats best overall for surgery. Getting your BMI under 60 make it easier for him to do the surgery and easier on you as well.  The overall risk associated with persons of a BMI over 60 is 10 fold. Meaning you are 10-20 times more likely to have a serious complication on the operating room table. Dr H has a flawless record and he wants to keep it that way. He knows you can lose the weight or else he wouldn't even ask you to do it, he would of just said he would not do surgery on you at all. 10 pounds a month is possible if you truly dedicate yourself. Best of luck and let me know if I can help.

Don't worry your ins. company will not change their mind about your surgery if you lose weight. I'll let you in on a secret,  in a weird way your weight is in your favor as far as losing it, the bigger you are, the faster it drops off on a diet, if someone weighed 200 lb.s had to lose 20 and someone who weighed 400 had to lose the same 20.. the 400 would lose it much much faster on the same diet!! since you have to do the 6 month supervised diet anyway, try to be reasonable don't try to cra**** to get down to a certain bmi, 6 mo's is hard but not impossible, The best advice I can give you is to drink as much water or no caloriedrink as you can!! (stay away from caffeine and soda even diet, it makes you hungry) eat  diet jello ,almost no calories and it is filling. Before I made up my mind to have the surgery, I lost 30 lb.s without doing ANYTHING at all but eliminating sugar drinks, i used to drink reg. pop , sugared tea etc. I made up my mind i would still eat what I wanted for the time being and just make a pact with my self not to take in any calories in liquid form (with the exception of a small glass of milk once every great while) I was the girl who would drink diet tea with my choc cake lol. but, like I said I lost 30 lb.s without even trying, it wasn't a diet or anything and 30 lb.s made a difference . don't give up, you already have a month down !!! go girlfriend go!
