Hello All, I am wanting to make sure I have the correct information... I am wanting to lose about 175 lbs. I weigh about 315 (give or take...) . I am thinking Protein, Protein and more Protein and LOTZ of exercise and even more water. So, as long as I do this it is possible for me to hit my weight of 140-145... right? I have seen ppl that lose 100 in 5 months, so I am wondering Is there any reason I cant? And does it age play a factor? I am thinking yes on age... I am 33, but worked with an older lady that had Dr. H and she lost at a slower rate and I am just wondering why? I mean, do I have things playing against me OR for me? I am willing to bust my butt to do WHATEVER it takes to lose this weight in the first year... If you think my goal is UNattainable or I might be setting myself up for disappointment .... I want to hear that too!! All opinions are welcome!! Or are they just really lucky? And, if I can do it in 5 months, why wouldnt I be able to lose the other 75 in the rest of the 7 months? The reason I want to hurry and lose it is because they say after 6-12 months it is harder to lose and slower. I would be okay at 170 which is wear Dr. says I will lose easily and I will have to work at the other... like I would if I didnt have the surgery.. I figure if I watch my carbs and drink my water, exercise and make sure I get my Protein in I should be good. Is this right?? Is there anything I am 4 getting? Does anyone have any advise for me? Also, I "heard" the more you weight before surgery, the more you lose... is this true?  I have a friend on here who was about my weight, had the surgery in December and has lost a 100 lbs now!! So, I was just wondering if there is a secret to her success or is this pretty typical? I messaged her about a week ago, but havent heard back yet...Well, thanks for reading and I am anxtious to read my responses!! Have a great week! ~Lo

Hey Lo, I was 503 the day of surgery and on my ann. date this year i was down 180 pounds roughly.  Even though I had a lot more to lose then you I think it is possible.  I am at 311 now and I am happy as a clam.  I know for most of you 311 is still such a high number but for me this is the lowest I have been since 7th grade.  yes, for real! I have went from 310 to 142 and am now trying very hard to stop losing weight and gain some back.  I am trying despartly to maintain 1200 to 1400 calories a day.  So far I have been able to reach 1000/day.  I am to thin in my opinion but I never have seen me this thin so who knows what I need to look like.  I am 55 years old this coming friday so no you are not to old!  Just becareful and follow your rules! about all anyone can tell you about this is what and how much they did. Each person loses at their own rate ...health, age, weight starting out, amount of exercise, how much protein they eat, how much water they drink, all of this comes into play. You could very well lose that much and you are a young girl so you should be able to lose a lot faster than i have. I was 258 the day of surgery and now weight 150 surgery was 8/14/06 so you can see i have lost finally 108 pounds some days it is as much as 115 lol because anyones normal weight goes back and forth if you weigh daily. One think i will tell you right now. take a good set of measurements. of all sorts of places on your body, neck, boobs, under the boobs, waist, tummy, hips, thighs, calves, ankles , upper arms, wrists because, they will come a time in your weight loss that you wont loose anything for a week at a time some times it will stretch out to a month but if you take your measurements you will see that you have lost lots of inches....losing the weight is never for anyone a straight downward spiral, it is more like a series of downward stair steps. Lossing weight, loosing inches, losing weight, losing inches. Yes it is harder to lose the weight after about 18 months or so but it still can be done. You just have to be a little more conciensus. maybe exercise a little more. and keep the food intake away from any and all carbs. It isnt easy to always not eat the things you know you shouldnt eat but that is where the tool comes into play, It is there to help us do a diet easier. Hope this helps some.  You comeing to the Springfield meeting next tuesday the 27th?????????????????????

Jan pretty much said everything I was going to.  It really is an individual thing.  I started at 252 and have lost 41 pounds in the first 2 months.  Now I am averaging 1.5-2  pounds a week which is really ok with me.  I am still "shrinking" though so still losing.  You are still young so your metabolism should help you along with it.  I am 40 and still able to lose it so you shouldn't have any problems.  You are a worrier aren't you???

Well, I certainly hope we can lose that!!!!! My rny was 05-05-08 and I weighed 416. Went back for my followup one week later and had lost 11 pounds so now 405. My doctor tells me it is possible to lose up to 80 to 100 pounds in the first 6 months. But, as all have said, it is individualized like no other. I am 49 years old, soon to be 50. Whatever I lose I will appreciate for sure. I am sure you will continue to lose after the initial 6 month time period, so just continue to follow your doctor's orders and do whatever you are supposed to. Just don't set yourself up for disappointment.....remember that yucky word , disappointment? When we used to diet and never lose? Do you best, dear, and I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck.
