I am 4 months out well a little over that and I'm starting to have a lot of problems eating meats.  The other night I cooked country pork ribs on the grill and they were really tender well after about 3 bites got really sick felt like something stuck?  Thought I was headed to the ER but I took some of the papya tablets and that helped so then I swore off pork ok so last night I tried some tender roast beef with gravy and the same thing happened and I don't know why?  I have eaten meat before and not had this much problems with it.  I did have a problem when I first started the phase where I could have like the ground chicken, pork, turkey I had some ground pork and didn't do well then either but I just thought that was because it was too soon?  Do I have to stop eating meat now or what?  I do pretty good with most foods so I don't understand what is going on can someone please help with this? Thanks,

Hi Bev....I had Lap Band Surgery in Jan of 07. I assume you had Gastric Bypass. Either way, we both have the same problems with meat. I have found that some meats and fish can't be tolerated no matter what I do but there are things that help. Eat slooooooooooowly, take very small bites and chew, chew, chew until it's almost mush in your mouth. I use a lot of sauces, soups and gravies too...it helps the meat slide down a little easier. I had one of those episodes where meat got hung up and I did go to the ER. That scared me half to death! Thank God for the papaya pills! I have since learned!  Good Luck!!  Deb M

Bev Im almost 18 months out and have that problem with meat,  when I do eat a piece of steak or solid meat like that I find if I chew at least 30 or more times on a small small bite it will go down.  I love steak and when I do have a piece of steak I cant eat it well done, i have to have it at least medium or medium rare in order for it to go down properly even after chewing 30 times or better.  Just becareful and keep the papaya tablets handy, those really do work.

Dear Bev,

Your in the really fun stage-getting to really know your pouch-and where one time you can eat something-think its okay, eat it again and dump! It was the worst stage I had. My recommendation is for you to get a journal and make it a food journal. When something does that-give it a couple of weeks, at least, before trying it again!! The food journal really helped me out-and I tell all my angelettes to get one and they have never regretted using it either.

I am 18 months out, and I can tell you-to this day I CANNOT do ANY PORK, except maybe a slice or two of bacon. No pork chops, any kind and no matter how they are cooked-I have dumped every single time. I just dont try anymore-even with ribs and if they are falling off the bone moist-cant do it. Roast, never- no matter what kind-same as pork-and I love my roast!! I, like Andrew-can do steak, but not if its well done either-has to be medium rare and have to chew until my jaw hurts, so I dont really do steak anymore. It took almost a year before I could do burger or chicken of any kind really. I will still dump once in awhile depending on my chewing and all of that. Its sort of hit and miss-and it may be something you have to give up for quite some time...... But, definitely keep the papaya tabs close at hand and try the journal just to see. I wish you well and congrats on your success so far!~ Love, Janet
