I'm home and recovering

Oh my...where do I begin.  I had my surgery a week ago yesterday.  I really had no fear before surgery.  I had no expectation of the aftermath.  Well, it is everything they tell you.  THE FIRST 48 HOURS ARE THE WORST!!!  I had open Rou-en-Y.  My surgeon, Dr. Stanley Augustin, Truman Medical Center, Hospital Hill, Kansas City, MO said my incesion would be 6-10 inches.  My incesion ended up being 16" with about 50 staples.  It had to be made larger because my fat layer was about 6" thick...you know that fat thing on Oprah that Dr. Oz brought out that's supposed to look like yellow lace???  Well, not my fat layer, it was 6 inches thick and tough. The biggest challenge in the hospital was not being able to drink.  I made it with a swabb and a cup of ice water.  I never thought spitting water all over myself would be so pleasurable. I had some difficulties in the hospital.  Please understand the nursing staff, surgeons, doctors, were WONDERFUL!  There were problems with equipment for example, my bed would send off an alarm every hour because I exceeded the weight limit of the bed, I went in to the hospital at 490 pounds.  They could not do my swallow study because I was too big for their machine, chair, table or something. I am now home trying to get better.  I want to feel better now.  I sneazed pretty hard yesterday so now I have quite a bit of pain I am dealing with.  I am on a full liquid diet.  I am getting tired of strained cream soup, yougurt, protein shakes.

Hi Donald; Glad you are doing ok. It will get better. Take it easy and don't rush anything. Try straining some broth from chicken noodle soup. Much better than most things.
Hugs; Barbara

Donald, Sorry things turned out to be more than you expectied.....Hang in there it will get better soon....And it will feel so wonderful to feel the fat melt away!!! I started out at 474, did a liquid diet because I had to loose 50lbs to be able to have my surgery done laperscopic..... I was at 417 when I had my surgery and it felt good and I felt good to loose that much.. But after surgery when it started falling off even better I started feeling soooooooo much better with each pound I shed.....I feel like wonder woman at times now hahahahaahahhahaa..... Hang in there with the liquid diet, wont be long and you can add to it and start feeling a lil more normal.....You sound as if your off to a good start so keep up the good work and keep us posted.....Keepen ya in my prayers.....Luv & Hugs....Tammy~ammy
