PROPANE VS CHARCOAL

I am looking to buy a new grill. My question is I am wondering if I am going to have problems with gas with a charcoal grill now that I had my surgery? I was told that charcoal causes gas??? I am sick of buying propane everytime I go to the store. So, I am just wondering what ppls input would be?

we personaly do not use a propane/gas grill
we do not like the taste of the food that is cooked that way...
we use charcoal.

we have a charcole and a propane grill ,,,,the charcoal grill we usually use wood from several trees that we have cut down and made into chips .....like cheery and oak and peach .
