3 weeks out and happier than ever! (Shout out to SW MO)
Hey there everyone! I don't post that often here but just thought I'd let you know how things are going and give a shout to my fellow SW Mo folks.
I had my Lap DS on 8/25/08 with Dr.Gagner in Miami Beach. Being a self-pay sucked but at least I got to choose a fantastic surgeon (Chief of Surgery at Mt. Sinai, taught at multiple Ivy League Med Schools, did the first ever Lap DS, etc.) and there are worse places to recover than Miami Beach.
In 3 weeks I'm down 28 pounds and more importantly 3 inches off the waist. I feel great and my mood is fantastic. Surprisingly my sense of taste and smell really haven't changed from pre-op. I haven't had any problems with anything I've eaten and I've been a bit of a daredevil when it comes to trying foods ahead of where I should. Technically I'm supposed to be nearing the end of the soft food stage but I've already had steak, chicken, seafood, dairy, various veggies, fruit, and just for grins pieces of chocolate and ice cream. The only problem I had was a couple of times when I waited too long to eat and let myself get famished; I ate too much too fast and got a pain in at the top of stomach but no vomiting or anything.
Still trying to find a protein drink that I like, don't mind the one from WalMart but don't really like it either. I'm probably going to try the Champion Nutrition 'Banana Scream' from VitaLady next.
This has been my first week back to work and I do run out of energy in the afternoon but hopefully that to will get better with time.
I already feel better and am able to do some of the things that I had on my pre-op desire list. I'm able to do more with my kids and able to pick things up off the ground without it being the huge ordeal it used to be. I'm back to attending various meetings on M-Th nights and Saturday soccer games so there isn't a lot of time to make any support group meetings but I think of you all and wish you all the best in your journey.
