Daily Bible Reading - Thursday Feb. 19th
I really like how Jesus tells stories when He preaches, He always makes sure He puts things to where anyone can understand it even though a lot never got what He was saying. Its really amazing how He always draws such a crowd, today we saw that the crowd got so big He had to go out on a boat and sit and preach to them as they gathered on the shore, it was almost as if the crowd was so big there was no more room left for Him to stand and preach. I like how His disciples asked Him what the parable meant and He seemed to be like “whatttt?" Then He tells them “Don’t you understand? How are you going to understand anything?" Just like a typical teacher, except Jesus wasn’t typical. He seemed to be telling them to pay better attention or something. I like how He tells the parable of the seed sown; it’s a great example for us to live by. Jan I’m sure you can relate to sowing the seeds, if seeds are just laying there they get eaten or taken away by the birds, if seeds are sown on rocky ground they grow but have no roots but if seeds are sown in fertile soil they grow and prosper, I just love how He put that, its really so true, you can use that example for most anything. Then He says “Consider carefully what you hear" in other words, pay attention to what you hear and are taught. That’s one thing I still have to work on, paying attention more, I’ve always had a short attention span.
I love how Psalms went in verses 23 and 24 If the Lord delights in a mans way He makes his steps firm; though he stumble he will not fall for the Lord upholds him in His hand. I just love that, when the Lord delights in us He will not let us fall, even though we might stumble or trip up He will always be there to hold us up and keep us from falling, that’s just so awesome, to know that our Lord has our back.
***Jan*** Psalms is one of my favorite books too, some of the chapters are so beautiful and speak volumes. I know what you mean about taking something to the alter and leaving it there, that really is so hard for people to do, esp me. We have a tendency to leave something in Gods hands but yet awhile later we go right back and pick it up and go to worrying about it again, if we could only learn to leave it put on the alter God will handle it from there but if we keep picking it back up its like we take it out of Gods hands and its up to us again, it is so hard to just leave it but we sure are better off if we do.

The ultimate goal of our Christian walk is to be like Jesus. The ultimate goal of our diet is to be trimmer and more fit. Both goals require great discipline and commitment. Both goals carry valuable rewards with them. It makes sense to combine the goals whenever we can. If we will diet prayerfully, constantly relying on Jesus Christ for comfort and strength, then we will please the Lord and lose weight at the same time. With Christ we become overcomers, and we are promised that we will share in Christ's reward in our heavenly home!
Today's thought: I cannot be beaten, as long as Christ is on my side!
Golly... how many days have we been reading now about those sacrifices! ~ha Even though we don't practice those in this day... they obviously were very important to the Lord!
Makes me think if those were that explicit and detailed... what really true sacrifices do I make in the way that I can to the Lord? I know we are not required to make those kinds of sacrifices any more but I also know the Lord is very well pleased when we do make sacrifices for His sake in showing our love for Him. Will have to give that some more thought today.
Andy you wrote just some of my thoughts today about the New Testament... what stuck out to me was the very end of the portion as you said where is says:
"Consider carefully what you hear" he continued. "With the measure you use it, it will be measured to you ~ and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him."
Boy that a scary thought! Since he tells me to listen wow I better listen huh? Lest my blessings be gone!
Loved your thoughts on the Psalms today too... my thoughts exactly!
There is that verse about the righteous not begging bread... the elderly ladies in the church when I was young would always quote that verse and it seemed so "way out there" to me at that time... but as I've grown older I can see why they always thought that verse was so meaningful... seems especially more so as we face such a gloomy economy. But what hope we have in the Lord! What assurances we have! I'm learning afresh this year that we can fully rest in the provision of our Lord! Even when things seem at there worst the Lord will provide if we stay close to Him!
Thanks Andy for your faithfulness to this post... I can see blessings on your life for being a "d"isciplined obedient servant!
