If any of you are accountants you should enjoy the book of Numbers because it’s actually all about numbers.

God orders Moses, in the wilderness of Sinai, to take the number of those able to bear arms—of all the men "from twenty years old and upward," the tribe of Levi being excepted, and to appoint princes over each tribe. The result of the numbering is that 603,550 Israelites are found to be fit for military service. Moses is ordered to assign to the Levites exclusively the service of the Tabernacle. Moses is ordered to consecrate the Levites for the service of the Tabernacle in the place of the first-born sons, who hitherto had performed that service. The Levites are divided into three families, the Gershonites, the Kohathites, and the Merarites, each under a chief, and all headed by one prince, Eleazar, son of Aaron.

The Levites who are suited for the service of the Tabernacle—those from thirty to fifty years of age—were then numbered.

Preparations are then made for resuming the march to the Promised Land. Various ordinances and laws are decreed.

Can you imagine having to count 603,550 people one by one? Now that’s a job and a half.  I just thought I’d give an overview of Numbers to hopefully help some understand what the book is about.

I really liked Proverbs this morning. “When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone but the righteous stand firm forever" How many of us have gone through or are going through a storm now?  I think the majority of us can raise our hands to that one.  I love how we can stand firm in the Lord, don’t waver in the storm but let the Lord guide us exactly where in the storm we are going and it is promised that we will stand firm forever.  Now that’s a promise I want in my life.  Especially in our wls journeys if we will stand firm and do what we are suppose to we will make it through with the Lords help with no problems.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!"

When was the last time you had so much joy that you couldn’t contain yourself? Maybe your favorite football team won the big game. Or maybe you received some unexpected, good news. There are many reasons to rejoice in this life, but the scripture tells us to rejoice in the Lord.

To rejoice simply means to express great joy. There are many ways to express your joy in the Lord. You can sing, shout, clap, and one biblical definition is to literally spin around! Notice these are all action words. That means we can choose to take action no matter what our emotions are telling us. We can choose to rejoice in the Lord no matter what’s going on around us. And keep in mind, when you make the choice to rejoice even when you don’t feel like it, you are giving God a sacrifice of praise. That’s something that pleases the Lord. That’s something that opens the door for Him to move on your behalf. When you take a step of faith and choose to rejoice, before long, your feelings will get in line. You’ll feel His joy bubbling out of you like rivers of living water, refreshing you and giving you strength to live in victory in every area of your life.

Today's thought: I choose to rejoice in the Lord. I set my mind, heart, and emotions on the Lord today knowing that He is faithful! I will sing of His mercies and goodness all the days of my life.
