ok I am probably a little early out ,, but I just found out I have to have a hysterectomy, AND ovary removal done, the gyno said it would be great for me to have my panni removal done at the same time as she could go through the same incision...lovely huh? anyhow I would need to fine one (plastic surgeon) who accepts medicare...seems like a tall order, but I thought i'd try , either associated witth shawnee mission or mennorah medical center. I am in overland park. any thought's ideas would be greatly appreciated thank you

first off go to a website of certified surgeons for KS, and what other state that you would be willing to travel too. Be sure to get a real surgeon,....the website that I found stated whether or not they took Medicare or not,....then just start calling them.  I found that several surgeons took it, but then I told them I needed the hernia repair too and they said that this doctor would work  with that doctor.  Said to go see the one doc and he would refer you to the PS that he would work with.  Does that make sense, so does your gyn doc know a PS that they have used before or worked with??  That's where I would start.  Good luck with that, I put off mine for yrs till I found what I was looking for.  It is getting harder and harder to get Medicare to pay for these things.

Can you help me with my question? Who or where would I go to see if United Healthcare would pay for it or not. I know some ins have clauses in them. How can I get around that if that is the case with my insurance?

If you have the booklet for your ins. it will state what is and isn't covered, but I found out a long time ago if you start asking them questions they are going to tell you they won't cover it.  First off it's in the wording that you use for getting it if you ask for plastics they won't cover anything if you ask for reconstructive they will pay for a lot of things that you wouldn't think they would.  So if I had insurance I would be calling the PS in the area your living or where you think you want to go and ask if they will take your ins.   If your just needing reconstructive surgery or if your needing hernia repair or something else needs fixed they should be able to tell you what you need to know.  Just be sure if you contact the ins company just don't ask to many question,...let the doctors office do their job.  I hope that helps with some of what you need.  Good luck I do wish you the best.  I hope I explained it well enough for you to understand it.
