Topic: RE: saying hello to Mississippi
Welcome!!!!!! I am a Lap Bander and just found this MS site, it pleases me to no end. When I saw where some one posted that they had had "fried cornbread" I knew I was home! lol I am your neighbor sort of, I live 30 miles North of Columbus.
You will do fine with your surgery. It is learning the new ways of eating that is hard. I did not have as much as some to lose but 100 or 50 it still has to come off. Lap Banding is also only a tool and we still have to recondition our way of eating,Blue Bell still goes down real easy! lol
Start learning the right way to eat right now, don't wait. I did and it helped.
It is so good that you gave up smoking! I know your grandchildren are proud of that, kids hate smoking, that should tell us something, huh? lol
Take care and stay here on the board and learn all that you can,ask anything, somebody will know the answer.

Topic: So, what's your story?
This board was once really active, and we used to all get together and do lunches and other fun stuff. So, we knew each other really well. But, then things slowed down a whole, whole lot. We seem to have some new posters and some returning posters. So, tell us about your weight loss journey.
I will start.
I am Melissa. I had Lap RNY on Jan. 15, 2004. So, I am almost 5 years out from surgery. I lost all of my extra weight in just 11 months and hung our there for about a year before I gained a few and leveled out. I have been the same weight and size for about 3 years now. I had the surgery to fix my stomach, and I have also had some therapy to fix the head as I had disordered eating as they say. I still attend a support group every month, and I am active on a few boards on here. And I really think that has made the difference in keeping the weight off and staying healthy.
I had plastic sugery in January of 2006. I had a tummy tuck, breast lift, and breast augmentation. I haven't been really pleased with the results in the long run. So, when I decide to get my arms done, I will be using a different surgeon. If anyone is interested in hearing about my plastic surgery journey, I will be glad to talk to you and explain what happened and why I am not pleased.
So, where are you in your journey to lose weight and keep it off?

Topic: RE: Self Pay Issues
Hey Tam! I was self pay as well and I received some God awful bills too. But, as soon as I got them, I called whomever and they straightened it out for me. I even got bills after surgery as well... just call them and let them deal with it. My cash price was for EVERYTHING including 1 year post-op follow ups, so I shouldn't have gotten bills in the first place. But I did, but don't worry. Just call whomever and let them deal with it. If the bill actually said, "THIS IS NOT A BILL"... tear that sucker up and have fun doing it!!! LOL

I really hope so because 2 of the bills total almost $1,500 and I got a paper that says THIS IS NOT A BILL for $28,000 from the hospital.
Let's just say I probably needed my blood pressure medicine last night when I started to open these up. LOL!

If they quoted you a full coverage price I mean price that covers everything BEFORE your surgery heck no I would not worry about it. Worse case is if for some reason you do owe more send them $30 or $50 a month and dont worry about it. But I can almost assure you that this is a mistake!

Hey Sharon and WELCOME! We are more than happy to have you in our family. This board used to be sooooooooooo busy but has dwindled down. Hopefully now with your and tammy's help and lots of others we can get it moving again. Sounds like you are a true success story.

Topic: Self Pay Issues
My insurance wouldn't pay for my surgery. So I took out a loan for it. My loan was supposed to pay for everything. But now I am receiving bills at the house. Expensive bills - the kind I don't have money to pay for. So I e-mailed the doctor's office and was advised that this is mostly likely a mistake, that I shouldn't have gotten these but that the lady who can fix this is out of the office until next Wednesday.
Is this something I should be concerned about??

I've played around on the board "lurking" for about a year before I really started posting. Now I am addicted to my blog! Who knew? LOL! I am trying to document everything as it happens to help others who might be afraid or have question or have suggestions. This is not about me. This is about God's power working in a situation that I have repeatedly failed. So I know that all the praise and success is only due to Him and His love.
The weather in Hattiesburg has been nice, but my husband is a Biloxi Firefighter and he has been in meetings already about next week's storm. He works again on Sunday and they warned him that he will probably not be able to come home on Monday as scheduled. And that's ok. My daughter and I will be safe here in Hattiesburg. And he loves his job. I know he is in God's hands and everything will work out in the end.
I hope you find that you like it on this board. Wally's Dee (Denise) and Melissa will post off and on during the day as their time allows. And there is a guy in Jackson who just got a surgery date, so he is starting to post more frequently. And Fillisg(?) posts daily what her menu is going to be for that day, just to get a conversation started. I first used the boards only to just ask questions, but now write just about anything.
Have a great day!
