Still FARTing after 3 years
I'm in a class to upgrade my EMT certification, and yesterday we practiced a trauma scenario.
The exercise put a 165 lb Rescue Randy dummy in a confined space, between a fence and an institutional air conditioner. In real life, extracting the patient probably would have been the job of some rescue techs with confined space certification.
My two partners were a young lady who by her own admission was not all that strong, and another guy who was as big as I used to be. He wasn't going to fit up at the patient's head. I was smaller and much stronger, so I got the job.
RRandy was backboarded in place, and extricated. We did our trauma protocols, then had to listen to the critique. The other guy was the team leader, and he was asked why he assigned us to the jobs we got. "Well, I had a choice of a big guy, a medium guy, and a small woman. There was heavy lifting involved, I wasn't going to fit, and by Pam's own admission, she wasn't capable. Bob got C-spine."
Just the idea of being considered a medium guy warmed my little heart...

Oh, and a PS: The head instructor for the class is having his own lap RNY in a month, and has been grilling me incessantly about my experiences. Happy to help. Think of me at the final...

Always good to share in your FARTS Bob! I've finally got an appointment this very afternoon to get my first post-surgical (revision) band adjustment...there's just too darn many fat people in central-Illinois I guess, it's taken me 3 weeks to grab an appointment!!
I just stepped down from our local fire service, 27 years, 11 as their Chief. Still love the work and my guys, but my preaching thing keeps demanding more and more time from me, something had to go!
Keep up your great work!
