Baseball cards!

I have made it a tradition to buy a box of topps baseball cards every opening day.  My 4 year olds and I open them up and put them away for the day they can appreciate them.  This year I was shocked when I bought the usual box at wally world and it cost me 20 dollars for 8 packs of cards.  I am re-thinking my desire for my son to get into collecting.  This is nuts!
Just ranting.

A great idea.  Sports cards. Also, try another icon GE or Cisco stock -  no COOL FACTOR here , just a nice retirement package for the offspring.  Long after you're gone he has a gift that keeps on giving and lotsa choices
Gave my 38 yr old son some old tops cards, civil war stuff and his children GE and Disney stock - not for college, but for retirement.
One of those financial talking heads rick eldeman, spoke of the advantages of gifting for retirement vs college.
So dont go nuts, go take some stock in stock

I am really beginning to resent sports in general.  As a Yankee fan, there is no greater thrill than walking through the tunnel and seeing the lush green grass in the middle of the bronx.  Unfortunately, they have priced me out.  I used to go to one or two games a year because it was a pain in the ass.  Now if I can go to one, I will consider myself fortuante.  I would give up on the whole damn thing if I didn't have a 7 year old boy who likes to go.  Maybe I can got some reasonable priced games on Stubhub.

It was the same bull**** with the cards.  I used to collect.  I would buy boxes and boxes and sort them until I had the entire set.  Can't do that anymore.  ******g **** suckers!

Whew, that felt good!

Why did baseball cards become so valuable??  Because all the efficient moms tossed them in the trash when we got older...Thank you Good Housekeeping!!  Made them a lot more valuable.  Concerning baseball...I haven't been to a major league game since the strike year, when they cancelled the World Series.  I made a token return last year and went to 2 spring training games in AZ...more for the sunshine than the games.

We've got a team here called the Nationals.  Well its called that.  They have'nt figured how to play pro ball yet but we, like the fans up north,  are holding our breath.  Wont go to the games until they learn.  Get better performance out of the AA leagues here and its cheap. Come to think of it , the only pro sports team that is acting like one is the Caps.  Raise the prices, I dont give a sh**.  let the "K" street boys pay.  Thats all that goes anyway.  Congresspeople, (free tickets to them) K'ers and lawyers.  We dont have anyone else with any money

I've got a box of random Tops and Fleer's sitting around from when I collected like 15 years or so ago. I actually think they are all circa 83-87. I should get a bekket and spend a weekend going through them. What a pain though. If I only knew the players that would be popular. /shrug. I also found some uncut sheet football cards out of the blue. not sure where I got them. Perhaps I could be rich! lol

I used to buy the wax packs by the box and look for error cards.  I found a Billy Ripkin error that had F*ck Face written on the bottom of the bat.  Still have it. The correction is worth more though.  I have 1988 tops complete set still shrink wrapped. Still have Donruss, upper deck, and Fleer cards. All packed away, need to dig them out see if they are worth anything.

Mid 80s was into it but once I started driving I stopped. Collected coins and paper money too.
