Some Information Please
Hi Everyone,
I joined a few weeks back and posted some questions and sent an email or two....I can't find them now...Oh well....I'm new to this and would appreciate any advise you could give me in regards to speaking with my family doctor....I don't think she is a fan of the prcedure. I've had two hip replacements in a year and one revision. Plus I have Lupus and fibromyalgia.....I'm very intrested in the different procedures and am reading up on them. but it's always nice to hear first hand......but to get started talking to my doc. so she will support this effort....help! I'm seeing her tomorrow
Thanks Peggy
Hi Peggy,
I am scheduled to have lap-band on July 7th. I am on my three week pre-op diet now.
When I was doing my research I chose lap-band because it was the least invasive of all the surgical types. It turn out that because of my age (57) that was the only type the Dr. in Moncton would do anyway.
Unless you have a type of health problem that would prevent you having weight loss surgery, it shouldn't matter if your family doctor is a fan or not!! This is a very personal decision. At least ask her to give you a referal so you can discuss it further with a Dr. that has experience with weight loss surgery. The only one that I know that is doing it is Dr. Beausolei at the George Dumont Hospital in Moncton. He has a before and after clinc set up with a very imformed support team.
Good Luck - Carolyn
Hi Peggy,
I know that I am late. So I hope your Dr,s appointment went well. My PCP was not a big help at all. I had to fight for everything with him. So I took things in my own hands. I was banded on May 12 06. It was the best gift I could ever give myself.
The best thing you can do for yourself is educate yourself. Knowledge is power. If you go to the DR.s office with paper in hand with all the facts and info on the band. Most Dr's do not know about the Lap-bandit so because of that fact alone it is no good.
Since I live in NS and the Bariatric program has been shut down I was not going to wait till I could not move any more, before the health care community would start to take an intrest in me.
Peggy you may have to look at out of province for the surgery. It all depends on your means. I was a self pay so I was able to choose where to go. So Peggy do your home work. Once your Dr sees that you know what you are talking about and that you show him you are serious. He might help you. Lets hope. Good luck
Laurie
