Hi there....it looks like I am just a bit ahead of you. I am on day 7 of pre-op diet and scheduled for surgery with Dr Beau-Soleil on Feb 13! I am super excited!
I bought the the bars and the shakes and they are o****ep focusing on the end result and that is what is getting me through. I have lost about 10 pounds so far. I am not sure where you are but I would love to keep in touch!
Thank you for sharing your story fellow Frederictonian, I am currently waiting for my surgery on February 18 and I am nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I am finishing day 2 of the shakes and enjoying every minute of it...NOT! I have discovered that adding decaf instant coffee crystals and cinnamon helps a lot (I like savory more than sweet). I know that it will all be worth it in the end, I just need to keep my eye on the prize which for me is a life without insulin. I like to read about the journey of others, it keeps me calm so thank you again.

Transition to solid foods was great! Everything tasted so good. But I remember the first whole chicken I cooked, I ate a little too much. I think this is easy at first. I used to binge eat and eat fast. I wound up throwing up the extra food. But it was a different feeling. It doesn't come from the stomach. I got a feeling like, this food isn't going to stay in. It was in the esophagus. After I was sick I did feel better. And to put it in perspective I am someone who is almost phobic about being sick. And I never felt better afterwards. I think it's just something you have to figure out about how much and what you can eat. The dietician tells you to try everything and you will know what you can't have. Fortunately, or unfortunately however you look at it, I didnt have many problems. I was able to eat bread, pasta etc. but at first I was careful to introduce it slowly. I think one of my first meals was a fried egg and half a piece of toast. And I couldn't finish the toast. I usually eat all my protein first. I ate mini wheats every morning for breakfast before. Now I get a weird bloaty feeling so I have stopped for now. I bought the beneprotein they recommend and put that on my Cheerios in the morning. Beneprotein is cheapest at fords pharmacy in Moncton, by about $10 so I get it when I go for my appts. I'm an hour and a half away. And the iron they recommend is cheapest at Costco, $8.09, and at sobeys pharmacy, the only other place I've found it, it is $11.99. What a difference.
Congrats on your success, rykat! I was in for my 3 week post op visit to have the staples removed. I thought it would hurt, but not at all! I had the vertical sleeve on Jan 13 and have been struggling to get enough protein in per day. Rinette said that its not uncommon. How did you find the transition to solid foods? I've had trouble with the pureed foods...perhaps its just the consistency of everything. Anyhow, I was pleased to learn that I've lost 68lbs since I started the pre op shake diet, Again, congratulations on your success!! Peter

Wow- I don't get to post in here or read as much as I was once able to.
I am so happy with the progress that I have made since having the Sleeve 2 years ago today from Dr.B. It was truly LifeSaving. At my heaviest I was 440 pounds. Diabetic, had to work my ankles for a half hour each morning before getting out of bed. Life was horrid.
With the Sleeve I lost very fast almost too fast and in the matter of a year I went down by about 180 pounds. I was feeling great but then came depression. Just outta the blue for no reason.
So march of 2014 I stopped with the Exercise and didn't really pay attention to diet and the weight started to sneak back on a little bit at a time. Before I knew it I was up 20 pounds...Then I hit 30 Pounds and said no was this isn't happening.
I was still happy to be down 150 pounds from the 440 but I am not happy with any gain as it happens all to easily.
So My wife and I joined the Gym for new Years (Mid/ Late January)and I stated to watch what I eat and slow down eating and I realized how much I missed running. MY body is loving it and the pounds appear to be quickly melting off again.
So today on my 2 year sleeve anniversary I sit at 280 pounds(Lost 10 Pounds in the last two weeks of working out) with a goal of being around 225 for July 1st. an average of 2-3 pounds a week for the next 20 weeks.
The sleeve is a great tool but you still have to work it and watch to continue with long term results. I am ever so grateful for having the opportunity to have the sleeve and for all the support and answers I have gotten from this site in the past.
In case anyone is curious I am trying to maintain between 1200-1800 calories per day.
I do 2 Miles in 30 Mins on the Treadmill every day.
I am lifting weights 4 times a week Upperbody one day..Lowerbody next...day off...Upperbody...LowerBody...2 days off...
3 Sets of 12 Reps for each exercise.
I wish you all Luck in your Journey and hope that It is all you have hoped for and then some.
Good Luck Ya'll
Henry
You will do great!! Have hardly heard of anyone that isn't happy with their decision to have surgery!! I am waiting as well!!!
