At our Bathurst clinic we were allowed certain veggies 2cups per day) which helped tremendously throughout the boost diet.  What worked for me in high risk situations and to keep me mentally out of the doldrums was to avoid, avoid, avoid food/gathering scenes.  Holidays are gonna be tough but the light at the end of that tunnel is now only days away instead of years........stay strong and avoid what made you cave before.  Laying low this holiday season enures you'll be around for many many more. You got this.

Thanks sdpr.  That helps to calm my nerves quite a bit.  I am meeting with the anesthesiologist on Tuesday and plan on addressing my concerns with the team then.  I never dreamed this could be so stressful!!!!!

Up in Bathurst, a month before Semerjian did my VSG, he did a scope to see if I had a hernia because at the pre-op clinic we discussed my severe acid reflux/heartburn.  Depending on the severity and location of the hernia (can't be close to esophagus if I read somewhere correctly ?) he would have just fixed it during surgery if need be.  Close to esophagus may mean you could need the RNY instead, but give his office a call to calm your nerves.

Topic: Update post-op

I am 6 days post-op. I had the sleeve done with Dr. Savoie in Bathurst. The team at the Bathurst Hospital is wonderful...from the nurses on the ICU to the nurse on the 3rd floor. I stayed at the hospital for 3 nights. The first few days were a little rougher...I was nauseous, did not feel like eating at all, and was in pain. I think the worst for me is the gas bloating and the pain at the cut where they took the stomach out. I am moving around much more now (went grocery shopping yesterday morning so alot of walking), drinking my 6 meals and sipping water in between. I have not been hungry at all since the surgery and what surprises me the most is NO cravings...even when I smell my favorite foods...but I know that won't last forever haha!!

It is my understanding they don't fix them up in Bathurst.  Instead they see you back up and send you on your way :(

I had my operation in Moncton and they operated on my hernia the same time the did the sleeve. they told us at our all day class that if they find a hernia they fix it at the same time it like a two for one deal they said. I had know idea I had one to they told me down in the operating room when they were getting me ready to go in the operating room and they explaned to me what was going to happen before and after the surgery that's when they said they where going to fix my hernia I said i didn't even know i had one i guess they saw it on my x-ray or ultrasound so don't worry about it if you have one they fix it

just think how much closer to your goal and what a better way to start a new year with a chance to change your life. the first couple of days is hard but you will get us to it and the time will fly by.

Any body with the Bathurst clinic ever get opened up for surgery only to get closed back up because of a hernia?  I've heard this can happen and am now TOTALLY FREAKING OUT!!!!

I think it is a series of issues regarding wait times.  My doctor actually delayed the process by dragging his feet with letters and paper work.  I would book an appointment just to go in and watch him writer the letter of referral.  It was bizarre. But then once you get your referral every step is a waiting game...wait for the first consult...wait for  the educations sessions...wait for an appointment to the psych....wait for tests.... its always waiting and you go through a few steps the waiting drives you nuts because there are not straight forward answers.  No one can answer a question because they all rely on other specialist or departments with their own wait times....in the beginning you just loose it with the waiting but after you get through the info sessions and psych stuff the waiting becomes easier on the head.

I am over the moon excited! I can't believe it's only gonna be going in only a month! My hardest thing will be starting my boost on Christmas Eve! Surgery is January 7. It's going to be sooo hard:( I know that but I know if I don't Want to lose this chance to change my life forever. I am curious about nausea and wondering how people split their boost up through out the day. I just don't want to feel starving and that's what scares me is all the food! My family is spending Christmas with my sis she said she will make it as un tempting as possible. Sooo I am excited but extremely nervous. Mind over matter! If it was that easy I wouldn't be 300lbs!
