A friend of mine has been on disability and medicare (I believe) and is going to go to Dr. Smith in GA who accepts medicare. She is getting a surgery called the DS.  I had the DS in March 2005. I've gone from 440 pounds to 179 pounds.  It's wonderful that you have a boyfriend - someone that sounds like he supports you.  I completely was out of the dating scene while I was super super morbidly obese. Even now that I'm just "overweight" by my BMI, I still haven't been able to really get into dating yet.  I can feel your pain. Many folks I know have been in very difficult situations and ended up getting surgery - until then, do the best you can to keep moving. The less I moved, the more I gained. I was trying to do the working out thing to keep from gaining more weight.  Stay cool if you can, my faith helped me a lot when all seemed hopeless.  I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions. I thought that Medicare was a federal and not a state program.  Jill  revision from band to DS 3/10/05 www.picturetrail.com/kilaani  440/435/179/165 hw/sw/cw/gw  -261lbs, 14lbs to go LBL pending 7/11/07 with Drs. Topic: RE: Dr. Robert Rutledge and mini gatric bypass

Please research Dr. Rutledge very carefully before you consider him.  There is a wealth of information out there.    You can go to the site on the North Carolina Medical Board website to read about him.  There is a public file against him.  Scroll down to all the public file entries.   Just paste the link into your browser.  According to the consent order (I think on the bottom of page 4 or 5, he admitted there was evidence which could show a lack of ethics and honesty on his application to practice in Nevada.  Additionally, the initial charges against him by the medical board are really disturbing and are never really well defended by him. http://www.ncmedboard.org/Clients/NCBOM/Public/Licensee_Deta ils.aspx?&EntityID=26088&PublicFile=1  It's a matter of public record, so I don't see anything wrong with posting it.  The more information we have regarding ethics of physicians we are considering, the better.

He is no longer licensed in North Carolina and was further even reprimanded by the NC Medical Board for not being fully honest about investigations against him in North Carolina as well on his application to practice in Nevada. http://glsuite.ncmedboard.org/DataTier/Documents/Repository/ 0/0/6/1/0f289ee1-8d65-4ae0-b111-ed87f7b528af.pdf I don't know - there's something disturbing to me about a doctor with this kind of record advertising on You Tube - even running his name and phone number across his videos.

I would rather have a surgeon without a public record against him personally. Anyway - all of the above is a matter of public record and found on the North Carolina Medical Board website.  Normally, I would never say anything about any particular physician (my father was a surgeon), but in this case, I am going to just point you all in the right direction and you can read about him yourself.

I just had the pleasure of attending an OH event in Texas.. I have to say that it was one of the best times I have had.. It makes my fourth conference, third as a post op.. I was fortunate enough to speak at the ones I have attended.. So if you get a chance to go to this event.. Please go.. I met Dr. Marcy at the Irvine meeting and she is awesome..  If I had the time believe me I would be there.. Please take time to attend if you are in the area.. You will walk away feeling great.. I am still on the high provided my the one in Austin last week.. If you are pre-op you get to see people that have been through the surgery and if you are post-op you get to share your stories with others..

First let me say that you look amazing.  I was reading your profile and I have to say that you are truly an inspiration.  I am so sad that I will be out of town at the time of the Vegas event, and won't have the opportunity to meet you in person. I agree with your suggestion too! I can't imagine not utilizing this tool its utmost potential.  I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize something so valuble.  It is my intent and my hope that I will be able to focus more on physical activities that I use to enjoy, and think of food as fuel for my body instead of using it as a crutch as I have for so many years now. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your insight with me.  It is greatly appreciated.

I have definitely began to make a conscious effort to become more active.  Unfortunately, I am not quite ready to join a gym, I have a lot of apprehension about the gym. I go into panic mode at the thought of walking into one. I know how silly that sounds considering that is where I need to be and there are trainers there that would be able to help me, but for some reason I can't get past my inital fear of the whispers and stares I know I will encounter.  It's been 6 years since I belonged to a gym because of things like that. But on a more positive note, I am walking almost every day and plan on gradually increasing the time I spend doing that.  I am also doing exercise videos three times a week and will increase that as I get more energy. Thank you so much for your input and support.

Hey I'm in Texas and we've had so much rain here, it would be worth flying to be in the sun.  You cannot imagine what it has been like for us.  I'm pretty sure if the sun doesn't come out soon, the suicide rate will climb in Dallas.  People with convertibles are all driving around looking like a deer in the headlights! hugs, Y p.s.  save a place at the pool for me and I'd LOVE to meet your skinny never been fat sister.

YES! I'm lurking on your board because I'm coming to the Vegas event.  I am 6 years out and my first suggestion would be to use the first year to learn about finding new things to excite you.  This shifts your attention away from food.   I make food as boring as I can.  I see many women "play" that first year because they can eat for the first time in their lives without guilt.  I was one of those.  Fortunately I figured out a lot of stuff just in time! I had a lot of motivation for sure.  That's why I'm here.  That's why I come to the events.  I am just fortunate enough to get to video for OH this time.   I would be happy to help along the way if I can.  I found that paying it forward is the one thing that ensures my success in my journey. hugs, Y
