Topic: MOVING TO VEGAS AND NEED HELP...
I will be moving to vegas after the first of the year and having my surgery on January 15th at Stanford. The Stanford folks told me I need to find a PCP who understands WLS and all its inherent issues so I will have a doc set up once I move. So far I have heard of a couple docs who deal with WLS patients, but they dont accept Pacificare Nevada HMO. This is where you guys come in....I need to find out the names of any PCPs in Vegas who handle WLS patients. Also, any other ideas on how I can get this info... I cant call every single doc on the provider list...besides I would get some receptionist who I doubt would have a clue what I was talking about. I really, REALLY need help figuring this one out...HELP!!!!!! Thanks.... Harriet

Topic: RE: DOES DR. PHIL KNOW WHAT HE'S TAKLING ABOUT ? ? ?
Ray, there are people out there that have gained all and more of their weight back. Not everyone has dumping syndrome after this surgery. One does not have to 'stuff' themselves at meals to gain weight. More common (in those that gain weight) is the 'grazing' behavior (eating all day long). Also bad choices, such as fats, carbs, and even sugar, add to the possiblity of gaining weight. Sometime down the line our pouches expand (no matter what we do), and we are able to eat more (than when we were newly post op). If we have not established good eating habits and patterns, weight gain can happen. You are right that it does not make sense to have WLS only to defeat it with old or new bad behaviors. However it can and does happen. Stick with your resolve, and you will do great. Just because it can happen doesn't mean that you must allow it to happen to you. Good Luck and Success! Tek

So what your saying Tek is that one CAN EAT AND STUFF THEMSELVES AGAIN AND GAIN ALL OR SOME OF THE WEIGHT BACK AGAIN? Well Tek, I really believe that its got to be one hell of ah way to commit suicide. It's got to take a lot of effort to do that. I mean here's a person who just got done what the RNY procedure, starts getting hungery again big time like I'm sure most do and they have to slowely by slowely start EATING THEIR FACE OFF AGAIN, with dumping happening and throughing up time after time. Working on STRECHING their pouch to the size it was before the operation. Man, that's INSANE ! ! ! i PRAY TO GOD I DON'T DO THAT. My due date is: Dec. 4th, '03 No I don't want to due that, not after going thru a radicule operation like I'm going to go through. NO THANK YOU NOT TODAY. ANY AND ALL COMMENTS ARE WELCOME. RAY

In this respect I believe Dr. Phil to be correct. You can out eat this surgery, but not in the first several months. We must use those first several months to build new good habits. There are many many people that have gained some, all, or even more weight after a year or three. As my Doc says, it's all about choices. Tek

Hi Everyone Try this on for size and see if you can answer back what Dr. Phil says about GASTRIC BYPASS on his website, I quote, " EVEN GASTRIC BYPASS IS SHORT TERM IF YOU DON'T CHANGE YOUR THINKING." Well, people is Dr.Phil right. I mean I don't know YET about my thiniking when it come to OVEREATING. But I can tell you this after my surgery on: DEC.4,'03 I'll be thinking differently about DUMPING AND GETTING SICK IF I OVEREAT. THE PAIN WILL STOP ME. Tell me what you guys/gal think ? Ray M.

I have signed this petition awhile back, I highly encourage everybody to sign it. They need so many more signatures before the lawmakers will even consider it. Misty

Topic: RE: VITAMINS, VITAMINS DO OR DON'T ? ? ?
I don't know that they say anything about that but I am taking a high potency multi vitamin and vitamin E. I figure it can't hurt and it might help. I know we have to pump ourselves full of vitamins afterwards so I was just practicing...lol Misty
