Topic: RE: What do folks 2+ years post-op want for support?
My surgeon has us split into two groups that meet back to back. Right now, I am going to both but am starting to identify with the further out group. They actually started getting together independently and did fun stuff like bowling, zip line, canoeing, walking, etc. They also meet for lunches, sometimes at 'bad' places, but it is good training for me to find things on the menus that will work. It is hard for me tho as I watch them eating fried food and other 'bad' things. It works for them, and I am making it work for me. I just no longer expect to use them as role models.

Lora, You got it right! The issues people struggle with at 2+ years are indeed different. And... These are the folks who disappear from meetings. I've asked several and they say that they just don't get enough out of the meetings. I feel I really do and love seeing people being transformed (and being part of their process). Tom

Tammy, Your setup sounds very nice. I am meeting with a core group of 2+ year folks right after the new year. We will see what they come up with. From the discussion and consensus so far, I believe it will be a monthly casual restaurant meeting. The feeling is that at this point you should be able to deal with food and especially around 10-12 other WLS patients.  There needs to be some sort of incentive for long term people to get out to the group. These are the people who drop off. We think a casual chat at a Starbucks, Panera or Applebees might persuade them to join us. -- Tom

Dr. Vincent DiNick is the Medical Director at Brookside Plastic and

Reconstructive Surgery Center location in Novi, Michigan.  Brookside is a

state of the art 6,400 sq. ft. surgical facility which opened in August

2009.  Brookside offers a luxurious office complete with the most modern

technologies available and a staff of first-rate professionals.  Dr.

DiNick is also in parternship with Barix Clinics, the leader in bariatric

surgery, located in Ypsilanti, MI. Our goal is simple: to enhance your

beauty.  We customize your entire treatment to fit your specific needs and

to make your life changing experience at Brookside Plastic and

Reconstructive Center a positive, relaxing and exciting journey.

Although good surgical technique is critical to the successful outcome of

cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, He believes an equally

important element is listening to your needs and understanding your

desires. There are many ways, surgical and nonsurgical, to address your

aesthetic concerns. The doctor feels strongly that it is his job to

educate you on these surgical and nonsurgical options to achieve your

goals. The more informed you are about the treatments you chose together,

the greater your satisfaction will be with the result whether it is a

tummy tuck, breast augmentation, liposuction, or a face lift. Once you

know what can and should be done, it will be your decision to choose what

is right for you.

Given the diversity of individual forms and the possible interventions,

Dr. DiNick  believes an artistic sense is needed to achieve beauty,

proportion and harmony. A great surgical technician with no aesthetic

sense can not restore or create beauty. The doctors effervescent

personality and warm demeanor to artistic perfections, as well as his

diligent attention to detail is evidenced by unparalleled surgical results

and thousands of satisfied patients.  Each surgical procedure Dr. DiNick

performs is tailored to your needs.

He enjoys bringing your aesthetic goals to life. He is able to

accomplish this by listening, understanding, educating, communicating and

individualizing the procedure to suit your needs. Dr. DiNick combines

these concepts with surgical skill, attention to detail, artistic insight

and compassionate care. The end result is an experience which will enhance

your life.

Facial Contouring

Ravages of time can dramatically affect the appearance of the eyes , face,

and neck leaving sagging skin on the upper and lower eyelids, deep folds

around the mouth and hanging skin along the jaw line and neck.  All of

these areas can be addressed with a variety of non-surgical and surgical

techniques to eliminate the “sad, tired" appearance and to create a more

refreshed, youthful look.

Body Contouring

Liposuction

Today liposuction is the most frequently recommended and performed

procedure to improve body contour and self image.  Liposuction may be the

only way to eliminate stubborn fatty deposits in specific areas that no

amount of diet or exercise will get rid of.

Mommy make-over

A “mommie make-over" is an increasingly popular procedure in plastic

surgery today for women who have had children.  By definition, it is a

combination tummy tuck and breast augmentation and/or breast lift.

Sometimes liposuction is also performed.  These procedures, with great

results, return a woman’s body to its pre-pregnancy appearance.

Breast Implants

Implants available for breast augmentation surgery are made in silastic

(solid silicone plastic) on the outside and filled with either saline

solution or silicone gel (at the consultation we will discuss these

options).  My manufacturer of choice is Mentor ( www.mentorcorp.com).

Skin Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to reverse the effect of aging by reducing or

eliminating wrinkles and replacing soft-tissue loss. Most dermal fillers

are cost effective and the patient will see instant improvements with no

recovery time.  The results from dermal fillers can last  from three

months to five years, depending on the filler being used.  I use Botox

Juvederm and Restylane in my practice.

Latisse, Juvederm and Restylane

Rhinoplasty

The nose is the basis of overall harmony for our faces.  A small change in

the nose can change our overall appearance dramatically.  The nose is not

purely aesthetic-it is also how we breathe.  People consider nose surgery

not only for the cosmetic reasons but to improve the quality of breathing.

Topic: Tuesday/Saturday Support Groups?
Are there any support groups (pre and/or post) held anywhere in NE Ohio on Tuesdays or Saturdays (days or evenings)? That is the best day for us to attend as my S.O. works every other evening. It's also my day off.

Thanks!

I used Dr Gupta in Toledo...which I see is a little far for you.  He specialized in patients who have been obese.  Formerly heavy patients have a thinner skin and issues with healing, so I appreciated the fact that he knew before hand that my tummytuck might require different handling.  (He also is trained to place the lapband, which was important to me incase the port needed to be repositioned.)

And he is a hottie too...LOL

Does someone have a good plastic surgeon that will work with you on insurance approval? I need a revision of my stomach and love handles. Have a lot of scare damage that is unbearable for me. I also need my breast done. I appreciate all the referral s given. Thanks
