First I will start off by saying that I am sooooo happy to have lost every pound that I have. I am down 37.4 pounds from the start of optifast until now. I had my surgery feb 26th. I feel though my weight loss is slower. I am trying not to compare to others but you see so much on here that it is hard not too. I really hope things pick up, I am following the diet and walking but am not great at getting in tons of water so as of today I am going to change that. Got any other pointers- how much did you lose this eraly out?? yes, I know- everyone is different, but I can't help but wonder if I am doing ok.

Hi there

At first glance LOL, I read "Am I on crack" LOL ........... I really need this week-end LOL

It is hard not to compare yourself to others, but everyone goes at a different pace. You have done great and to be honest, losing slower is better. You will find times that it will pick up and go faster.
Make sure you get your water and protien in and don't drink with meals.

You are doing great
Keep up the great work and keep updating us on your progress

Take care

Joyce----Today is the first day of the rest of your life

I was actually wondering if "firm fat" was harder to dislodge than "flabby fat".
It seems to me that if we were relatively fit before the surgery (walking a lot, perhaps even engaging in the odd sport) then we might have fairly firm muscle holding up all the fat, you know?
And if we've been fat for a very long time, (as opposed to 5 or 10 years) perhaps it's more solid as well?

I don't think that would impact on our success at all, but I do imagine that it might affect the speed of our weight loss.
I could be wrong here - anybody else want to chime in?

Everyone loses weight at different rates, and you are doing fantastic!

I weighed 276 lbs (Feb 15) the day bfore I started optifast preop.. lost 14 lbs on the 14 day regimen of optifast. I had my surgery a few days after you (March 2nd)..my weight the day of surgery, preop, was 262lbs.. and as of yesterday (5wks and one day postop) my weight was 241 lbs. Its been a struggle as I have felt at times that I should be losing more pounds faster.
I had hoped for a loss of  more than 35 lbs since Feb 15th.. but.. I will make it a point to happily  accept the slow and steady weight loss. I stick to the eating regime and exercise and keep telling myself  that sooner or later I will see the pounds melt away. Losing weight has always been a struggle for me. If only I could lose it as easily as I could gain it, I would never had needed WLS, LOL!!
But its hard sometimes to be patient and not compare my weight loss amts to those of other successful WLS friends.

Keep at it.. you are doing GREAT!

weight is  just a number, how are your inches ? how do you feel ?

If i didn't have other issues happening at this time, i would be feeling fantastic, but i have been able to walk up my stairs more better with less pain, so in time i will get better.

you will as well Kelly, i bet others have noticed your loss, some times its hard for us to see it.

good luck,

It's really funny how we all second guess ourselves.  I was all worked up on my 1 month visit that I wasn't doing as well as I should be.  I had my surgery on Feb 24, and to date have lost 40 lbs.  Seems I want this process to go much faster than I am experiencing.  The scale is moving in the right direction and I guess I'm going to have to cheer for each pound as it comes off. I think you are doing fine and we seem to be close in our weight loss.  I do know that the NUT did stress on drinking my fluids, so I'm paying more attention as well as you.
Good Luck in your journey and keep your head up!

So - it's been about 2 months since you started Optifast right?  A bit less?

And you've lost almost 20lbs a MONTH??

Ok - reality check here.  GREAT weight loss is 2lbs a week.  Realistic weight loss is 1-2lbs a week.  So in 8 weeks, you'd be expected to lose 8-16lbs.

I'd say you're doing pretty great.  Sometimes we expect the weight to DROP off - especially when we wait so long to have surgery.  I know my son expected me to come home from the hospital thin - and sometimes I think I kind of expected that as well.

but after my surgery i lost 31lbs in the first month, then hit a HUGE stall for a couple weeks or maybe more. by 3 months out i think i was down 60 lbs and down 100 lbs by 6 months out.
it will pick up , dont worry. i miss those days!!

Don't fall into the trap of comparing yourself too much to others, I did that and it totally discouraged me.
I did not do optifast but in general I am slow looser (metabolic syndrome = reason for WLS).
My weight loss pattern was all over the map for the first 9 months or so, lots of loss, slower, none, boom!  lots... never any gain but never slow and steady.

Inches inches inches!!!  My specialist explained to me that 1 inch = 10lbs of FAT.
I am shrinking in terms of size but the scale is not moving.

This doesn't answer your question per say, but I would encourage you not to fall in that trap of over comparing yourself to others.

Everyone's preweight reasons differ... we all arrived at obesity and morbid obesity via a different journey.  As frustrating as it is, our journey to loose the weight will differ as well.

One day at a time!!!

I know Ifelt the same way as you fresh out of the gate. My first week post op I lost 8 pounds. I was so excited! Then for the next 2 weeks my weight went up and down but ultimately stayed the same. The last 4 weeks have been better but I know others have lost more. I am not worried though. I know I feel soooo much better than I did back in January. I can now walk without pain. I have 10 times the energy and I don't have the food guilt I once did. For me - focusing on how I feel vs the scales have helped me. Also, I put on a pair of capris today from last summer and they were so loose I need a belt. Last year they were so tight I popped a button
