I am only 10 days out and on clear fluids.  I am having horrible heartburn. Tums are not working.
Is there anything else?

Have you tried Gaviscon liquid? Sometimes when I had really bad heartburn I would sip a cup   ho****er.

Hope that this helps some.

If you go online and google home remedies there's one that adds baking soda to a cup of water. I dont remember the amounts but it worked for me.

The heartburn ususally last for only the first few weeks,,,,I was sent home with prevacid

I would contact your surgeons office and get a prescription for a PPI....something for reflux - it will go away with RNY after awhile

Good luck

You really have to get PPI. With VSG is different.

Sorry about the heartburn - I suffered horribly before surgery. I was prescribed prevacid and have been taking it every morning before breakfast. I've had no heartburn at all, just a little indigestion here and there.

Hope it resolves soon!

Char,

You are 10 days out of surgery. May i respectfully suggest you take none of the suggestions here and call your surgeon in the AM and find out  what he'd like you to do - your stomach is still early in the healing stage and self diagnosis and treatment might not lead to the most optimal of results.

If you were 3 or 4 months out it would be a different matter.. but so early out I'd hate you to do something that causes harm or masks a real issue.

Sometimes the best support  you can get isn't all purple puddles and pink rainbows.

Thanks everyone, I did call Dr. Reed's office and I did get a prescription so hopefully that takes care of it.
