Both articles deal with the use of bariatric surgery for extremely obese young people.

First from National Post
http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/06/11/war-on-obesity-hospi tal-now-offers-drastic-option-for-obese-12-year-olds/

and then from the Ottawa Citizen
http://www.ottawacitizen.com/health/weight+loss+surgery+dile mma/4933110/story.html

This, in addition to the Guelph Mercury article on a wonderful transformation.

For the most part, well written articles - a quick gaze at the comments though on the National Post shows just how ignorant most people are about this issue.

I always hope that with articles like these that it would show that obesity IS a disease. But instead it just opens the door for ignorant comments. My favorite are the "my tax money" ones. Like obese people are in a special "no taxing" category.

Sad that children need this surgery but I'm glad there is an option for them - I'd hate for any child to go through what I went through growing up.
