Six month follow up

I have my six month f/u with my surgeon tomorrow. I was always hoping that I would have lost 100lbs by six months. I have lost 87 pounds as of yesterday, and my 6 month date is the 24th. I am a little disappointed, but still extremely happy about what I have lost.

My prevacid was originally ordered for only six months. I am thinking about asking the surgeon for a repeat. I have read some people take their PPI indefinitely. Also, when my cardiologist took me off my blood thinner a couple of weeks ago, he asked if I could take a baby aspirin. I said I would ask my surgeon. Anyone have any thoughts or comments about these two meds?

thanks, judy

87 pounds is not a small number, but please keep in mind that if you are doing any light weights, working out, walking even you are building lean muscle mass. You have lost 87 pounds but how many inches have you lost? that is the real number that matters. 1 pound of fat takes up the same space as 1 pound of muscle. :)

You have done incredible

Thank you for your comments. I have really not been able to do my exercising due to some other health issues. I do measure once a month on my surgery anniversary. Coming up next week. I was actually 2 pounds lighter at my surgeons office, with all my clothes on, than I was "nakid" on my home scale this morning. Yipee!

You have done incredibly well! Try not to set such high expectations for yourself. Your body will do what it will do.

As for the baby aspirin - honestly, if it was my heart health, I would definitely take it if the heart specialist recommended it. Get an extension on your PPI. Nothing works if your heart doesn't. xo

Hi Karen, My surgeon was not against me taking a baby aspirin daily. He said you have to weigh the risk factors on both sides. I will speak to my cardiologist the next time I see him. Cardiologist did tell me I am low risk for stroke now because I have not have any more episodes of atrial fib since my ablation. That is why he took me off the blood thinners. He also said it is better that my blood is not thinned right now, because of the anurism I have in my leg. Less chance of bleeding out quickly. So as long as my heart keeps behaving, I will wait until after surgery on my leg, and decide then. I did also got another year of the prevacid, surgeon had no problem with me staying on it.

I have my other 6 month appointments next week. I am really looking forward to seeing the lab results, to see if the feramax has improved my iron levels, and I have been taking extra B12 and D to bump up my levels.

Thanks Karen for your input.
