Plastic surgery coming up...
Hi. I am having plastic surgery on March 11th. Dr. Moya is going to be performing the surgery and I was wondering if anyone had him do any plastic surgery for them. I am having the corset adominplasty done. I was just wondering if you could tell me a little of how you felt afterwards. How much pain and discomfort you had. Things like that. How long you were done for and how long it took for the swelling to go away. I know everyone is different but I just wanted an idea of what to expect. I had surgery on September 8, 2007 and I have lost 212 pounds. I feel wonderful now and I am so glad I had the surgery. Now I just need to work on getting used to my new body. I have a very hard time accepting compliments. Any suggestions on how to get over this? Thank you for any help you can provide me with.
You need an updated avatar!!!
Anyway - I don't have any plastics experience myself. The two friends who had the abdominoplasty done both had significant pain especially early out. Their healing since then has been radically different in my opinion even though it was done by the same surgeon. Wishing you luck, though!
As far as accepting comnpliments. What you have to FORCE yourself to do is smile, say thank you, and STOP TALKING. IT feels weird for a long time. But then it becomes second nature.
If it is at an event where people are dressed up or something (like a party or whatever) I do try to compliment the person back - maybe not immediately - but some time during that evening. For example - sometimes when somebody says "wow - you look AWESOME in that dress" or whatever the case may be I'll say something like "Thank you - that top is nice on you too!"
If it is just a general mill type ocmpliment "oh you look so good - you're doing such a good job" ("out of the blue" compliment as I call these) I just smile and say "thanks" It gets easier to do - remember - others see our "real" bodies where as we do not.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

No PS experience here, but as far as the compliments go ... I take each one on a case by case basis. Depends on who is giving the compliment. I am still getting used to my new body. The thing that throws me a curve is them not knowing who I am. I still have the same face, they claim I don't. I guess I can attribute it to the witness protection program, LOL. Enjoy the compliments while they are coming. When they stop, you will wonder why.
I am too new to know about plastics, sorry.. only 1 week post op, but just had to drop in and say
WOW!!!!!
212 lbs!?!?! That is SOOOOO awesome. I agree with Pam.. you need a new avatar and get some successing pics on your profile. That will help you to see the new and improved you. It should help you to realize how far you have come by looking over them every now and then. I'm sure I will be having the same issues dealing with compliments and will look to this board to learn how to do it.
Good luck and get those pics up PRONTO!!

Hi
I had a hysterectomy and an abdominoplasty with muscle tightening on 12/12. I was supposed to stay in the hospital 4 days because of the hysterectomy but I came home after 2. I felt AWESOME no pain to speak of ,some very minor discomfort. I only had Narcotics in the hospital 2x then Tylenol and when I came home I didn't take anything . I was out driving in 1 week.. I had my drains in for 3 weeks they were annoying not painful & when they came out it didn't hurt. I had to have my belly aspirated 3x after the drains were removed. it didn't hurt he numbed the area . I had a Lot of drainage because I was doing to much but that was because I felt good. after your surgery keep walking and it will make you feel better. the more Narcotics you take for pain the worse off you are because they make you woozy that you can't walk ,tired & constipated so for me it was better to deal with a little discomfort actually it was better then the RNY pain. I felt so good & I was so impressed with the healing that when I went back for my first week C/U I scheduled inner thigh surgery. the worst part of the surgery is that I couldn't lift or hold my 8 month old grandson for 8 weeks.
Good Luck to you

Hi -
My plastics are scheduled for Friday 4/3 and like you I am a little nervous - but excited at the same time. I have read alot on the boards and talked with quite a few people who have had similar proceedures and each experience seems to be as different as the person. Since your plastis is 3 weeks before mine - I will be anxious to read what you write about it.
I also have a very difficult time with compliments. I still have a very negative self body image and although at my highest (342) to now (158) I know by the numbers in my clothes tags Im smaller and people say im smaller - but I just dont see it. My kids even tease me a bit and lately they are calling me Skeletor. I try to accept complements - but its too hard - Im hoping with time that will change.
