Sleep study

Hi everyone. I'm having a sleep study done on Monday night. Any tips on making the experience a good one?

I don't usually have any problems getting to sleep in strange places, as long as I have my blanket.  I know that sounds silly.  It's not a "security" blanket issue per se, as much as it is an issue due to the fact that I skeeve sheets that I haven't washed myself.   I cover the pillow with my blanket rather than hauling around my own pillows.

I'm also wondering what time they will spring me.  No showers there, so I know I will have to go home first.

Anyhow, any insight is appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa

My advice is to stay up late sunday night so you are extra tired. Even if you don't have trouble going to sleep normally, it's still wierd having all the crap attached to you and knowing you are being monitered. So being extra tired will help.

Otherwise, I don't have any other advice. I got to leave around 6 am or so. I guess it depends on what time you get to sleep and how much data they have.

Good luck!

The day I did my study, I got up very early in the morning and did a ton of stuff....so I knew I would be really tired!!  And make sure you have your blanket!  The first test I went to they woke me up between 6-6:30am.  The second test (with CPAP) they woke me up at 5:30am.  But they let me use the shower there (Dr's shower) because I had to go to work.  Then I slept in my car for about 2 hrs before I had to go into work!

Good luck with the sleep study!

I swear I didn't sleep, though they told me I did.  I brought my teddy bear, which helped me comfortable, at least.

Morning: yes, you will have to go home and shower...a very long shower.  Plan on a lather-rinse-repeat-repeat-repeat...at least!  They hold everything in place with this special paste and it's difficult to get out.  And if you're not driving, have someone pick you up from the hospital, or wear a hat.  You'll be leaving there with that crap still stuck in your messy hair, dark circles under your eyes from not sleeping...you will look like you are just coming home from a Very Rough Night - and I don't mean a sleep study!

Uh yeah.....the goop stuck to your head!

I was low on diapers, and thought I'd just stop at the store on the way home from study to get them. I didn't know I'd look that way! I HAD to go into Giant with that crap stick all stuck in my hair. I was so embarrassed. Thank goodness it wasn't a store I went to usually!!!

I brought my pillow and afterwards went home and showered and went back to bed for a few hours. The blanket sounds like a great idea.  I had mine done at Holy Redeemer and the cheap asses didn't have sheets on the bed.

thanks everyone....Umm...I'm going to University Sleep Center, but the on in Pottstown. I have been there for a consult.  It's a smallish place and from what I can tell, it looks pretty clean.

I was thinking of just going into work late.....I think I better take a half day and go in a lunch time.  That will give me plenty of time to get cleaned up.

I just had my first sleep study 2 weeks ago.  I took my own pillow with me and was glad I did.  Definitely take your blanket with you if that will help you sleep.  I know I slept while I was there, but it wasn't good sleep, and I was exhausted the next day.  I was able to shower there before I went to work, and I didn't have any trouble getting the goop out of my hair.  I swore I didn't have apnea and was shocked to learn that it's actually moderate to severe.  I have another study in a few weeks, this time with the cpap.  I'm looking forward to it---getting better rest, and knowing that having apnea will help with my approval process.

Good luck with your sleep study!  It's really not too bad and will be over before you know it.
