Last week my primary doc put me on 65 mg of iron once a day and I have been taking it for 3 days now. Well, my intestinal track is w reck. I feel like someone is ripping me apart...anyone have any suggestions????

Peri colace is your friend!!! I am guessing that the havoc it is causing is constipation... I belive that we can also take milk of magnesia. I take peri-colace frequently though and it works great

Hope this helps!

I had terrible issues after upping my iron supplements.  My mom suggested taking a daily Magnesium supplement and that has helped matters quite a bit -- I take it at a different time than the iron, of course.  I don't know what the Magnesium does or why it works -- apparently it was my granny's cure for constipation (and also insomnia, oddly enough).  I don't care how it works, I'm just glad it works for me.  I didn't like the Colace or Peri-Colace but I know that lots of other people swear by them!

Good luck with it.  Hope you feel better!

1/2 cup steamed broccoli
1/2 red kidney beans

these two things everyday and your bowels will wake you up every morning for "turd time" (as my boyfriend likes to call it).

I don't take iron....but I've heard that there is a gentler iron...I forget the name of it.  I don't know if you are also constipated...but the colace and peri colace might be worth a try.

Good luck and feel better.
