Ok, I start my new job on Monday... and right now I have no idea what to do with Lore... and today is Thursday... argh lol...

Yesterday I checked out a place right across the street from where Jeremy works... I love it... Lore loved it... only thing that sucks is the cost... argh!
$220- 5 days
155- 3 days
105- 2 days

Right now we can afford the 5 days with me working... BUT... once the baby comes... we won't be able to... it would be my whole paycheck...

So, I am also checking out people that run things out of their homes... but not sure what people charge for that... so I'm still searching...

But, here is the question... I know a lot of you have kids that ge****ched by others... which did you pick and why... because I have never done this before and totally not sure which will be best for Lore...

Thanks...

One of the guys I work with has one year old twin boys so he and his wife got a nanny - on of all places - Craig's List! They found 2 on there - one was an older woman they had when the boys were infants but now that they're becoming mobile they wanted someone younger and found a young lady who has a degree in primary education and child care. While a personal nanny might not be in your budget it might be a place to go look for home care or something? He said they had to have background checks and other stuff before they could post out there - might be worth checking into.

Other than that I'm no help since I have no children - I do however take my dog to Fuzzy Butts Doggy Daycare on occasion - that's not cheap either but definitely cheaper than child daycare - LOL!!

Good luck on your search,...Kathy

When Dawson was 4months - 2yrs we had him with a private sitter - she did it out of her home and it was nice for him.  She had only 4 other kids and he was the youngest.  She did activities with them like coloring and crafts (I think that is really important, especially knowing he was not in front of the tv all day) and they went outdside (she had a "playground" in the back yard) and she cooked for them everyday Breakfast, snacks, and lunches.  SHe asked the parents to give juice and things and I think we paid her $70/week. Having him be so young and going into a setting like that, I felt more comfortable with less kids and more attention for him becasue he was so young.  He wasnt one of 10 babies in a baby room in a daycare (sometimes there are more crammed in there and they can lay there crying for a long time or sit in a poopie diaper for a bit till everyone else gets changed).   Once he was a little over 2 we moved him into a daycare/preschool setting for the socialization and the preschool teaching (abc's, numbers, writing, etc) that really put him ahead of the curve once he got to kindergarden because he had alot more skills than alot of other kids.  He went 1/2 days and I think we paid $115/week - but that included meals, snacks, field trips etc.  Last summer we hired a nanny - she is a college student at PSU majoring in elementary education/psychology.  SHe was amazing and is coming back to work for us this summer.  Its hard for me to tell you what to do, but I would visit alot of places and talk to alot of people.  Sometimes someone knows someone and in this economy that can work in your favor!

You will know when you go into a place if it is the right fit for Lore - mother's intuition works everytime. I also did "drop in" visits before I put Dawson anywhere - that way you can really see what goes on.

I hope this helps!!!

Do you know anyone out of work right now you would trust to do this for you?   I've a friend in that situation that is nannying and loves it; without it, should couldn't make her mortgage so she's MOTIVATED.   Might give you time to figure out what you really want to do.   my .02

Ok...so I have a potentially stupid question....

If you can afford it while you are working, fine...and then when you have the baby...won't you be home with the kids while you are recovering?  Would Lore really need to go there all five days?

It would at least give you some time to figure out something else....
