Shin Splints
I have nothing to help with relieving the pain once it has started. And if and when I take motrin (tylenol as far as I'm concerned is like popping two tic tacs) I take pepcid with it and also stay on pepcid for a day or two and make sure I take the motrin with food. I keep it as rare as possible, but still do use it on occassion.
Anyway - my question is what have you been doing that caused them? Have you been walking more? Treadmill? Normally that is what would bring it on for me. I actually started using MBT sneakers. They are pricey to say the least, but they are "curved" and make you walk "heel toe" like you are supposed to anyway (they advertise this as "working out" by just changing your shoes but I don't buy into that crap) Anyway - long story short - they worked for me especially when I was working a lot at my heavier weights. They also helped my back pain. Just a thought. They look a little weird...but oh well.
Feel better!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Yes, I have stepped up my walking. I felt the discomfort a few days ago and just thought it was muscular so pushed through it. Should have stopped at the first sign of pain. Oh well, lesson learned. I'll have to look into those sneakers. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hope everything is going well for you. I know you are a busy, busy girl.
make sure you are only walking on one type of surfce... like a trail, grass, side walks, tread mill etc... it is when you 2 different ones at the same time that mess with your all your leg stuff (muscles, tendonds etc... )... also replace your walking/running shoes every 3m if you walk more than 20 miles a week...
Learned this the hard way in high school playing soccer... but once I started to only run on just grass and only grass and would change the insoles of my cleets every 2 to 3 months I never got them again... and the only way to really get rid of them is rest... so right now try to walk as little as possible and keep iceing them... if your legs start to cramp on the front toss on a heating pad...

Eileen,
No remedy, but I sure do hope that you feel better sooner rather than later!

If you are a lifter. Get on the leg curl machine but NOT on your stomach. Sit on it, light weight. Put your toes under the pad so you are lifting with the muscles in the front of the shin. make sure you ice after training, both lifting and running.
Some of the new insoles really help take the impact out. Sorbathane is great but a bit heavy.

You know life just isn't fair sometimes - you kick up your exercise to feel better and lose some more weight and now this? That sucks!! Hope you're feeling better soon. I have been having some issues with my right leg and I think its mostly due to the amount of heavy, excess skin on my upper thigh area - I can work out thru it and it actually helps but sometimes when I go to walk to up a step boy oh boy does it ache.
