Feeling kinda of weird

Ok I am one week post op and everything is great.  Dr. cleared me to go to full liquid and very soft/puree food stages.  So I have tried a couple of things.  And am eating very small portions but the only thing that didn't work so far was eggs.  But I read that full eggs could be a problem.  But after reading others and I just am worried that something is wrong with me.  That everything that I have tried so far is working.  I know I might be just a worry wort but it just seems weird.  I just read such horriable stories about how people can't even get their water in.  The only thing the doctor told me was try and get 64 oz of water and 50 -60 grams of protein.  He said I probably won't get the protein in but try as best as possilbe.

So today.

I have 4oz of my protein shake (again no problem with what I using before surgery)
abput 32 oz of water so far and 4 oz of cream of chicken soup.  And for my snake tonight I will probably have the other half of yoguart I started yesterday 3oz but I also mixed the whole thing with a scoop of vanilla protein powder.  So my protein will be about about 25 so far.  But I think that is good considering I just got release yesterday to start that.

I am crazy.  Sometimes I even think that did they do this surgery correctly.

JEnn - you are doing fine!! I still have trouble with eggs sporatically and I am over 2 years out! As far as everything else I think that you are doing great!! One thing that you will come to learn with this surgery is that it doesn't treat everyone the same! Each and everyone one of us has had something unique about our journey. You are doing everything you should be and within your ranges!

Liz

PS - I think that protein powder looses it's potency once mixed, maybe someone else can confirm, but I think that it only retains it's "protein" for a few hours. So you might want to mix it as you eat it.

Jenn, don't worry.  You seem to be handling the surgery well.  I had the same reactions.. or lack of reactions.  I had a bit of issue with the soft boiled egg I tried to first day, but when I ate just the white I was fine.  Now, I can pretty much tolerate the whole egg, MOST of the time... there are days when I feel weird after eating them.  Other than that, I have not really found anything that I CANNOT tolerate.  I haven't rocked the boat yet with carbs or fruit or anything weird, but to me it's just not worth it.  I do want to try fruit, but I think fear is keeping me from it.

You are doing just fine.

My surgeon wanted me eating fruit by 6 weeks out.

As Norm said "I have never heard of anyone puking their guts up from eating an apple"  I know Kathy dumped on pineapple once....but other than that haven't heard of many issues with fruit.

Start getting in fruits and veggies...don't want to have any issues with constipation cause that is REALLY not fun!

I've been doing veggies.. maybe I'll attempt fruit this weekend.  It looked REALLY good at the picnic yesterday, but I wasn't going to try it when I was an hour from home and in front of everyone from work!

It is so funny that you posted this today - At Barix last night, people were talking about the things that were either not sitting well in their pouch or not able to get eerything in because of how it made them feel, and I totally felt like something was wrong with me - I am 7 weeks post-op and everything thing that I have tried has been fine!  Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled that I have had no negative reactions, but I was worried, (and still am!:) )  that the other shoe will drop at some point!

However, I do remember at PATS the nutrionist telling me that it is usually easy to not get sick, and that is by doing the right thing, eating VERY slowly - which I do - (My colleagues are entertained by it actually!)  Sipping my drinks throughout the day - again, which I do - introducing one new food at a time - I also do that - with fears each time that this is the food that wont sit well, but it does!  And finally varying my diet so that my body can respond appropriately!

Keep doing what the dr and the nutritionist tell you to do and hopefully you will continue to be pleased with the results!

The only thing I had problems with early out was protein - and that was because I couldn't stand the taste of the clear protein and for 1 week post op I was clear liquids.  Once I moved to full liquids I was much better!

I did have some nasty nasty diarrhea on day 6 and was nauscious - but besides that - I felt GREAT.

I had surgery on Tuesday, home Thursday, driving by Saturday including going to a craft fair, and then Sunday I was out ALL day including the mall, my in laws, etc etc.

Don't feel weird.  Trust me - you will have days where you DON'T feel good - up to and including a year or so later when you still make stupid mistakes.....so enjoy it while you can!

Jenn it sounds to me like your surgery worked perfectly and you're doing great!! The only problem I had at first was with ice water - that bothered my pouch so I sipped room temp water and was fine with that. And very few people are able to get all those proteins in the first few weeks, but getting the water in is key so you don't become dehydrated. You are doing great!!

Jenn,

I had very little problems getting my fluids, protein and such in early out, but I also focused hard on doing what had been suggested, so that might have been helpful.  As for food, the only foods I ever had issue with was hamburger meat, which you aren't there yet, and white flour products and that is a good thing ;)  Each person is different and just be grateful that you can get in what you can and are not living one of those nightmarish experiences that some people do have.

Best wishes for you!  Laureen
