Happy/wows AND scared!
Thank you all for your ideas, feedback and good wishes. I got here late today, had a wonderful sushi dinner (I had sashimi - lots of protein, low fat, low carbs, YUM) with my nephew and his girlfriend. Now I'm tired and hitting the sack - but have the clock set and the fitness center scoped out. Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Thanks!

You're probably on your trip already, Karen, so I'm sorry if I missed you on this. Last April I had to attend an all-hands meeting out of town and I had my surgery that February so I was fairly early out as well. I packed protein bars and checked out their fitness facilities. I took my work-out stuff and got up extra early and hit the bike in the gym. I grabbed fruit from the front desk and asked for extra bottled water in my room.
My biggest 'fear' was attending the ****tail hour and dinner that first night and really feeling out of place, but I got a glass of ice water w/lemon from the bar and walked around with that and mingled and nobody thought any different (my co-workers knew about my surgery - the new people I met just figured I didn't drink I guess) - then at dinner we were allowed to pre-order so I ordered a fish dish with veggies and picked my way through it but did a lot of talking. The dessert table was the toughest, but they had a big display of fresh fruit cut up so I took a small plate of that. People just thought I was on a diet and that was fine.
So I hope you're not too worried about this - we notice our eating more than others do, believe me. Good luck!!
