That's a good question! I have been doing six months diet with pcp, started that June 4th. My appointment with surgeon is in Dec. Here is that part that confuses me, contacted insurance in July, they said I only have to do 3 months diet with pcp with lists of diet failures for last 5 yrs. Oh, I have so been there and done that. And they want a list of my co-morbities. Mine are, esophasus errosion(horrible reflux),high cholesterol, pain in joints, arthritis in hips and knees, fibromyalgia and possible sleep apnea. go for sleep study next week. I'm gonna call surgeon on tuesday to find out if it is them that requires six months pre-op diet and why if my insurance does not? I would really like to get my RNY asap and get healthy and especially start enjoying life again. I think my soon to be husband is so sick of me wanting to be a recluse. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of things I do do and friends we spend time with but I have my comfort zones if you know what I mean. And venturing out of them causes me to freak sometimes. Also, there are things that cause me physical discomfort. Sweating , rashes, pain. I know you know what I am talking about, You have probobly been there. Anyway, he does love me as I am but he realizes it is unhealthy and I am unhappy(with personal appearance). He supports me 100% in my decision to have RNY.It took me the last five yrs. of trying every diet pill(prescription and over the counter ) to get here. I'm so ready to start my wl journey.
Your surgery will get here before you know it. I began this over a year ago and will be having my surgery on the 14th of this month. The time has flown by with all the testing and whatnot.
To have the support you have at home will be essential to your success. My hubby had his surgery over 3 yrs ago it will be 4 yrs in Jan. We went into it as a family, knowing it would change our family for the good. Now he's my support and it's been wonderful having that kind of support in the house.
good luck with your journey

Hi, another Eastern Pa person here. Sorry not help about the surgeon. My surgeon is in Abington (outside of Philly area). A ton of great people on the PA board, you will get a lot of advice and support here!!! Good luck on your surgery. Keep us posted!!
PS. Some surgeons have us do a six month diet because that seems to be the average for most insurance. So they get you started on that, before they get clarification from "your" insurance. Some also do it, just to make sure you will be compliant after surgery. IF you can follow a diet for 6 months, then you are worthy to get surgery. Not sure why your surgeon is making you do it, only she can tell you.
