Antibiotics

Does anyone know how they work for us now?  With the absorption and all...is there a difference?  Do we need stronger or longer doses?  I have been on one since Thursday but no real change!  I wonder if they don't absorb or something.  They also make me sick and give me the runs some.  Any help would be appreciated.  I am going to call the surgeon tomorrow and the my PCP to make any corrections but I wondered if anyone knows.  Thanks!

Sandy - it all depends. Sometimes they are a bit slower to kick in. I have only ever been on the "normal" dose for the regular amount of time.

Hope you feel better soon!

I also have only ever taken the "normal" regimen of antibiotics.

However, if you feel it isn't working, and you aren't allergic, there is liquid Amoxicillin that every pharmacy carries. It's what my kiddos would take when they needed it as a child and couldn't swallow pills yet.

Good Luck and hope you feel better.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

It depends on a few things...

1.  What antibiotic?
2.  What for?

I'd be wary of something like the z pack as it is only a five day course and is supposed to stay in your system for a longer period of time than that.  I have taken the z pack post op with no real issues, however.

More importantly is what you are taking it for.  There are a LOT of virus' around this time of year that no amount of antibiotic will help.  Virus' need to take their course.  We are now entering flu season...and well...that can take 7-10 days + some to run its course sometimes.  Fevers, aches, chills, feeling run down etc and/or stomach flu symptoms.  Not a fun time but not much to do other than keep yourself hydrated and rested.

Definately do a follow up call to your doc and see what they say.

I have not had to have extra antibiotics since surgery, knock on wood, for anything I have come down with.

It is Biaxin for a double ear infection and sinus infection so I don't think it is a virus.  I also have a wicked cough that makes me sound like a pack a day smoker.  It is getting better a bit but it just seems to be taking forever and the cough isn't moving out.  I will call the surgeon soon- been on the phone or away all morning.  Thanks for the replies!

I take that usually and don"t have any problems If it's a pill take it with a warm to hot beverage. this will help disolve the coating and allow for better absorbtion.
