ice skating today!! WOW!!
as I posted in roll call, I took Siehara and one of her friends ice skating today. I decided what the hey, I'm going to skate too.
My first wow came when I was able to get figure skates instead of hockey skates because my feet aren't as wide as they used to be. Then, I was able to bend easily to tighten and TIE my skates without having to keep getting back up to catch my breath.
So, after I helped Siehara get her skates on, we headed out. I stepped out onto the ice and started out slowly near the wall as usual. After just a few minutes, I felt comfortable enough to move away from the wall and keep moving. I was still just kind of gliding along and not really pushing off with my feet because I didn't think I could do it. The more I was out there, the more confident I became. I was able to push off with each foot, where I've only ever done my minimal pushing with my left foot. There was no pain in my feet, no pain in my back, legs, or anywhere else. I actually wasn't even afraid that I might fall. First, my balance was great.. but moreso, I wasn't nervous that if I fell I would really hurt myself irreparably or not be able to get back up.
I just had fun! Sometimes Siehara skated with me, sometimes she was with her friend. We had a great day!!
My current facebook status says this about the day:
skating fee for two: $10.
skate rental for two: $5.
getting off the ice because it's cold and not because I'm sore: priceless
What an awesome time!

Lisa,
That sounds like an awesome day!! And it really brought back memories!!! When I was a kid, growing up in Lancaster Co, Park City Mall had an ice skating rink, and we used to go often. I haven't skated since high school and not sure I could do it now, but I remember how fun it was. So glad you and Siehara had a good time!!!

Thanks Julia.. .funny thing is, this is the SAME rink I used to skate at when I was a kid..
It's an outside rink and the only real difference between now and then is that it was wide open when I was a kid.. now there is a cover on it to keep out the rain so they don't have to close.
It was still realllly cold.. LOL!
