I got there a filled out all of the paperwork. The therapist took me to an exam room. She asked me a bunch of questions and then did an exam. She was bending me like a pretzel!

My right knee crunches when it bends. My right side is tighter than my left side. My right knee is swollen slightly. She said I had strong leg muscles. Makes sense I guess.

I will start the actual PT on Monday 3Xs a week for a minimum of 4 weeks. She said something about building/strengthening my right side to balance it with my left side. Something about ultrasound to work out the tightness in the muscle(?) I will have to ice there. I will have electric stimulation for the muscle but I can't remember why.

The only thing I am allowed to do is work upper body at the gym. I cannot even walk on the treadmill. After the 4 weeks I might be able to start using the elliptical/bike.

Nice, huh?

Feeling slightly frustrated,
Beth

the ultrasound thingy is nice - so is the TENS machine or whatever is called if they do that. I went through it all with my back.

4 weeks - that's nothing! You can do it! I see at least 4 pack abs in your future from all the core/ upper body workouts you'll be doing!

You have done an AMAZING job so far and I know you'll get back out there on the road running just intime for the awesome spring running weather!

*hugs* I know you are frustrated though..

Couple tips. make sure you keep track of PT visits. Many insurers limit the number per year. Many insurers also don`t cover unattended electric stim. The machine with the sticky pads like ekg pads and give you a stim for on and off for so many minutes. My BC/BS doesn`t cover that.

Work the heck out of your upper body, ask about using the quad, hamstring glut and ab/adductor machines as long as they isolate and don`y involve the knee, Ask if they have an arm bike for cardio. Like peddling a bike with your hands.

As a person that played football, wrestled, played rugby, raced bmx, raced motorcycles I spent lot`s of time in PT........enjoy it. The heat pacs, the stim and the ice down at the end.

I know you are frustrated but just think of it as exercise.  3x a week is better than nothing.  You will be getting movement and you will be balancing out your body.  Who knows, this might just make you a better runner!!

Kick arse on that upper body and keep that core going strong and you'll be just fine.   The ultrasound and TENS are great!! I had them on my back, as well.

It's going to help!  Hang in there girlfriend!

I think all of it sounds GREAT.  It's getting you to a better place eventually, just not down the path you had initially envisioned.

Considering your work out routine, I understand the feelings of frustration, but I agree with Liz - you'll be sporting a 6 pack based on all that upper body/core stuff you'll be doing!

Hang in there - and vent away any frustrations here!
