Calorie intake
How many calories are you taking in a day and out of that about how many do we absorb? I am eating roughly 1000 a day but I have only lost about a pound a week for the last couple months. I know it is better than none, but at this point I have 22 to go and really 22 weeks for that sounds horrible! My sister told me we only absorb half of the calories (is this right?) so to remember that. Should I take in more? And I do get most of them from proteins.

Sandra,
there are a couple of things possibly at work here, so figuring it out will take a bit of experimenting to figure out what works for you.
First, you're likely getting too few calories, which puts your body into starvation mode, so it's wringing the most it can from every little bit you take in as well as holding on to its fat reserves for dear life.
Second, you're far enough out from your surgery to be out of your "honeymoon" period where a loss of more than a pound a week is common. It's not unusual to stall for a few weeks (or a month or two) so continuing to lose steadily is a testament to your compliance to your plan and to your hard work. Congratulations!
Now be patient, don't worry if it takes 22 weeks or even more - keep on working and you'll get there, or your body will tell you that it simply WON'T let you get there, in which case you'll need to revise your goal. But be patient and work with your plan to be the best you can possibly be.
