With some things in the past if you don`t let them go they will become like a cancer and will just eat away at you and deprive you of the ability to move forward and find piece.

My answer was a little short so I`ll explain. Things from the past that cannot be changed will never enhance your life unless you let them go. If everybody has moved ahead, lessons have been learned and appropriate changes have been made then rehashing or dwelling on the past does no good.
If it`s something you did, you accepted, you own , you made the necessary changes and learned by it then it`s done.
If it`s something somebody else did and they never owned it, changed or asked forgiveness then for me I just limit any kind of relationship or association with that person.
Gandhi:
"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."
"There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever"

The last part of this post sums it up.
It wasn't something I did...it was something someone else did. And there was an appology - but it was later then followed by a snarky comment which totally cancelled out the appology.
You're very insightful regardless :)

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
