Well we are in Fl and I am having a really hard time find a new doc. It pretty crazy actually. I called Dr kim's office who seems to be the go to dr for GBS. Well he wants me to pay a 600.00 fee. And i would start like i never had the surgery and go through all his classes and things like that. Well Im not willing to pay that out of pocket expense. Does anyone know of someone or do you think it would hurt to see someone like a family doc to keep up with my vitamins and things like that.

Does any one else think paying a 600 fee to start seeing him after I already had my surgery is alittle crazy??

Hi my favorite floridian! :) We miss you!!

I would call your health insurance and see who they cover. You can try your PCP and see if they know anything.

Not sure what your long terms plans are like but maybe for now you can see Dr Petrick ( think that's your Dr here) when you come home to visit your parents or something.

*hugs*

PS -that fee is CRAZY!

That's ridiculous!!!! I would talk to the PCP and see what they know about WLS.  I have been considering not bothering with a new surgeon, too.  I'm thinking that my PCP is pretty knowledgeable and I can have them run the blood work every few months, as needed and continue my care with them.

Check with them.  I would NOT pay $600 up front for any doctor and why should you have to start over when you've had the surgery?

It's no surprise that I agree with the two lovely ladies who already posted, lol  Cause we all think pretty much the same on MOST things.

The $600 fee is ridiculous.

The starting over thing is ridiculous.

I would say find a GP that you are comfortable with....and ask if they would be willing to run the labs that you normally have pulled.  Actually - that's what I've been doing with my primary here in PA  Instead of seeing Dr. P (who I still love, BTW) it's just easier to have my primary over see me seeing as though I basically know what I am looking for.   On the flip side, whenever I have him pull my labs, I ALWAYS have them sent to Dr. P so she knows I'm still checking on up on things etc.  When my vitamin D level was low, for example, she sent me a "over the counter script" for the amount of Vit D I need, and it differed from what my PMD wanted, and he said to follow her instructions....so I'm kind of in between both of them and it seems to be working out well.

Interesting idea Liz had about seeing your doc when you come for visits etc.

Have you checked the Florida boards with this info?  Maybe they have some more insight as well.

Good luck, enjoy the weather!

According to the surgeons and nutritionist there is no comparison for a pcp to evaluate your labs.  Your requirements are different than a non WLS patient.  Keep having your labs sent to your surgeons office and have them communicate with your doc and you.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

I go to my PCP for my labs and have them sent to my surgeon.  If a new PCP won't send for your PA surgeon, get a copy and send yourself.  My PCP is fairly knowledgeable but I also keep track of all my labs on a spreadsheet so I can see trends myself and see if anything is tanking.  VitaLADY from these boards and MAJORMOM (lightweights board) have a RNY, DS and other spreadsheets with vit levels for GBS patients.

If you send me a PM with your email, I'll send you the sheet with the lab levels ---- be your own advocate.

BTW -- spending another $600 and starting over is really ridiculous.
