Gaining Weight Back

So I can pose the SAME questions to you.  Why are you looking into surgery to lose weight?  Why can't you just "do it" yourself?  Weight loss will help with diabetes regardless of surgery.

Should you have sugar ever again?  No you shouldn't.  Just because I did doesn't make it right.

Is it easier to exercise after surgery?  Yes and no.  You are losing weight rapidly so you have less weight to "move around" per say.  And generally speaking less pain in joints etc.

After the first few weeks of feeling tired from surgery and what not you will NOT be to fatigued to exercise, assuming you are eating properly and taking your vitamins.  The vitamins are because we are eating less AND absorbing less.  If you don't follow the basic principals of life style change related to diet (protein first, fruits and veggies second, whole grains if any last)  Your protein goal will probably be between 60-80gm of protein a day.  Your vitamins will most likely include a multi vitamin 2 x day, b1, b12, calcium, vitamin D  Exercise actually INCREASES.  I was expected to be doing walking from minute one after surgery.  After 2 weeks I was cleared for moderate exercise at the gym, at four weeks I was cleared for abdominal work, weight bearing exercises, weight lifting etc.

the constipation issue - I have it but not everyone does.  And mine is DIRECTLY related to the calcium supplements.  So I take softeners and sometimes miralax to help.  And I make darn sure I get my water in, plus some.  That is another BIG concern beyond protein is fluid maintenance.

You definately sound like you have a LOT more research to do before you continue on this journey.  Keep asking questions and read a lot more on the subject and talk to your potential surgeons....

I wanted to tell you my take on the lifestyle modifcation question you asked.  You said.. if its just a modification then why have the surgery.

Try this example:   There were two people who loved to ride horses.  One of them did not need anything other than the horse and its mane to ride,  the other needed tools like a saddle and a bridle to ride.  Both rode the horse but one needed some assistance with a tool made for riding.

Some people can lose their weight on their own with no tool and others of us need a tool to help us. WLS is that tool.  I could not lose weight on my own.. I needed a tool to help me.   That is my take on it anyway but others may have a different take.

BUT.. research research research.... Its a big decision and you will need to adjust to your tool and use it everyday.
