Several bumps in the road to change, but boy has it been worth it

Well,  its been an interesting ride since my surgery last June.  I started out at 330lbs, and had no complications and no major adjustments to deal with until that darn ulcer just before Thanksgiving:(  After a week in hospital and another 5 healing up (or so I thought), Things go back to the new normal.  Then come February, and can you believe it, the night before my follow up GI scope to check the ulcer (the one that should have healed), I'm now at Lehigh waiting to have my gallbladder removed.  Now, once out of the hospital for that of course I reschedule that darn scope, but since I feel great they decide to wait until April.  Well, now my once thought to be healed ulcer must have been offended that it was being ignored, so it flares up last week, and after 4 days in Grand View, I'm back home again:)  Just a few (6 to 8) weeks to go, and the re-scope is on, and this time we are gonna heal this dam thing once and for all!!!!

But, still being just 3 months shy of 1 year out, and a few bumps in the road, I can say without a doubt, having this surgery was the single BEST thing I have ever done.  The fact that I am currently maintaining my weight at 178lbs, and for the first time in my life I actually have to really try not to lose anymore weight, any of the problems I have experienced have not changed the decision I have made.  I just thought after having a few set backs I would share my experiences with everyone here.  Yeah, its not all fun and games all the time with we hit those bumps cause buy the surgical process, but when you take a step back and weight the pros and cons, the pros ALWAYS WIN!!!!!!  If I had the choice knowing then what I know know, its an easy choice......I'm getting the surgery.

And, I have been trying to post some before and after pics for months, but I can't get it to work.  I called i an expert, so hopefully I have them soon.

Tim,

CONGRATS!!!  I love the way you put that story - it showed your sense of humor through and through and your dedication.  That amount of weight loss is less than 1 year is absolutely PHENOMENAL!!

Keep on successing!

Tim - congrats on you weight loss. Sorry to hear about the bumps - I'm glad to hear you say that it's worth it. Good to hear from you.

Keep us posted on how you make out with the gallbladder. I was fortunate to have had mine out the year before surgery. The surgery is no big deal at all.

Hey Lisa,

Thanks, yeah I did have the gallbladder removed, that was a walk in the park compared to the bypass surgery in regards to a much faster recovery.  It's funny how I went from being heavy with no medical problems at all, to weight loss that equals that of almost half my body weight, and then all of a sudden hit a few problems.  But when you look at the big picture, the minor problems I have had to deal with are nothing compared to what may have been waiting for me if I continued to remain at my original weight.  It's hard to believe that my weight this time last year was 350lbs with a 48 inch waist, my surgery date weight was 330lbs, and my current is at 178, and looking at a 32 or 34 inch waist.

Tim - my surgery date was the day before your date.  I also have that "hard to believe" feeling going on.  I'm down just about 100 pounds, down 5 pant sizes and 4 shirt sizes.

I've been fortunate to have no complications since surgery (knock on wood ! )  Hopefully none will come my way.
