Wonderful post Pam and once again I am late to the party but here goes. My name is Belinda Fultz, I am 40, I live very close to State College Pa. I had my surgery 03/21/2009 so I am just over one year out from a Lap RNY. I have lost 136 lbs. I had my surgery at The Weight Loss Clinic in Harrisburg, Dr. Matthew Davidson. Love him and the staff. I guess I had a little bit of a rough start. One month after surgery I developed an ulcer and a stricture. Was badly dehydrated for about about two months. So for about the first five months or so I was feeling shaky and weak and not so great. But even with all that going on I didn't regret my decision not even once. I too had been overweight all my life. I remember the first doctor suggested diet starting when I was eight years old. From there I tried everything and was never very successful. I always thought someone would have to be plum crazy to let someone cut you open and rearrange your insides to lose weight. Well in my early 30's I started to question that opinion. I researched for four years before making my decision to have the RNY and it took about a year to get to my surgery date. I absolutely love my new lilfe. To think that two years ago I was faced with the possibility of back surgery, and now my back pain is minimal.  The changes are amazing. I am looking to go back to work which is something I haven't been able to do in 13 years. I LOVE MY NEW LIFE!! This group of people has been a God send. I recieve so much support and knowledge here. I honestly don't know what I would do without all of you wonderful people. I love sharing in all of your Wow's and new pics. I love celebrating with you. I would love to be able to meet some of you in person some day. But even if that never happens I count you all among some of my closest friends. Thank you for allowing me to share in your lives and to share my life with you.

Pam,

Thank you for posting this.  It will be fun getting to know everyone "seasoned" and new here on the boards.  I'm not new by any stretch of the imagination but I'm one of the ones who doesn't post as much as I need to, but I lurk daily (sometimes many times a day) and the advice given by all of you wonderful people is invaluable to me.

I, too, am late to the game.  But better late than never, eh?

My name is Kristi, but please call me Kris.  I am from Bear, DE (I think the only Delawarean on this board) and had Lap RNY on September 9, 2009.  I'm married to a wonderfully supportive man named Robb.  We have been married for 9 years this September 21st and have been together for 11 years.

I too was like many of the others from the board was heavy all of my life.  You could possibly say from birth, since I was nearly and 11 pound baby.  I struggled with weight all of my life, trying every diet known to man and more, all with the same results.  I would lose a small amount of weight, start to feel good about myself, hit a plateau, get frustrated, quit, and gain everything back I had lost and more.

This started in elementary school and continued all the way through primary, middle, and high school and even college.  All of the weight issues were complicated with a dislocated hip and many subsequent complications my freshman year of high school and a another 18 years walking with the aid of either 1 or 2 crutches.  Through those years I continued to gain weight.  Finally in 2003, after years and years of doctors denying me a hip replacement due to either my age or my weight (mostly my weight) I had a doctor take a chance on me and did a total hip replacement at my highest weight of 394 pounds.  Over the course of the next 6 years I lost about 20 pounds landing at a solid weight of 376.  In 2006, just after my mom passed away i really started to consider the options of WLS.  My mom had struggled all of your life with medical issues and weight, just as I had, and it was complication from those issues that contributed to her death and I saw myself heading down that road .... and that was exactly where I didn't want to head.

I tried to start the process for WLS in 2008, but my insurance wouldn't cover the surgical fees, and unfortunately $6000.00 was way out of my budget for out of pocket so I continued to try to lose weight on my own, again failing miserably.  In early 2009 a friend of mine had the Lapband done and that's when i found out that my surgeon's office decided to go in network with my insurance .... which was my  dream com true.  At that time I started the procedure and five and a half months later I was taking the first step into my new life.

So now here I stand 107 pounds lighter than I was almost 8 months ago.  The decision to have this surgery is the best decision I have ever made.  I am not quite where I want to be, but like everything it's a process and I will work hard to get there.

After having a revision of my hip replacement 6 weeks ago... I am now back to starting my walking again and hopefully I will be ready to walk a 5k in September, just in time for my 1 year surgiversiary.

Anyone who wished to can add me on Facebook, I'm under Kristi Adams Lyall.  So if you want to friend me feel free.  You can also reach me via email at [email protected] or via cell at 302-312-5412.

Hope to get to know everyone better very soon

Hi.
I'm Greg.  Had RNY on 7/28/2008.  Have lost about 150lbs.  Married for 11 yrs, have 2 wonderful little girls (2.5 yrs + 6 mnths).  Used to be a regular at meetings and online however after receiving MBA also got new job, and a 2nd baby, so something had to give....  It *wasn't my health* but the extra time online and driving to meetings and such was replaced with making bottles, and driving to airports.

I used to exercise 5-6 days/week (jogging on treadmill @work (old job) @work gym).  Since the new job - travel 1-2 wks/month - I try my BEST to 1) eat right (very hard) and 2) exercise at least 1-2 days/week(runnig outside or at hotel).  No surprise... i've gained back about 10-15lbs on the last 6 months.  I'm not freaking out, seriously...I know what I need to do and I'm doin' it.

...on soapbox
Yes I'm on facebook - usualy when at airports with my iPhone.  Most of my updates are simply related to what plane I'm getting on or off for my family.

I'm 'one of the those' that has kept my WLS RNY details to myself.  I prefer *not* to friend WLS folks on facebook.  I *also* don't friend people I work with on facebook (not cause of WLS but becuase *i believe in* keeping these things seperated... ..
work = LinkedIn,
OH = WLS and
family/friends (that post high school pictures of me, drunk pictures of me, strip club pictures of me, tattoo images of me, political commentarty, smart ass racy 'career limiting' comments) = facebook
....off soapbox

It's nice to see the new (and old) faces.

Won't promise to be back anytime soon.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Lisa.  All girls are great :)

The oldest one :) is back to work full time at the hospital.

The 2 1/2 year old is a little diva...counting to 20 and singing itsy-bitsy spider and everthing is "no Daddy - I do myself" and she is a very very good 'big sister'.  2 1/2 but already looks like a little 5yr old (headaches to come I fear):

The 6 month old is all smiles, cuddles, has one little tooth and cute as a button, as evidenced below:

Ok, this is the last post I am reading to catch up before going to bed.  A week in Aruba makes it rough to keep up with all the OH happenings.

I'm Eric, 32-years-old, live in Schnecksville, PA with my wife Erin (also had RNY on 2/4/09) and twin daughters, Ryleigh and Hannah (3 1/2 years old).  We moved in with my grandmother last December to help her out and are in the process of finalizing the sale of our house.  Stressful couple months, but it gets better every day.

I had lap-RNY on 11/18/08 at Lehigh Valley Hospital with Dr. Boorse.  I think the world of Dr. Boorse and the program at LVH.  Top notch in my book.  Here we go with the numbers and you are the only people I tell them too.  High weight was 568, surgery weight was 555 and current weight is 256, which I am very happy with.  Would love to get below 250, but whatever,  if it happens great, if not, that's fine too.

For work, I'm an Investigator with the Coroner's Office in Lehigh County and I also work part-time as a Paramedic in Allentown and Northwestern Lehigh County.  I occasionally teach some pre-hospital emergency medical stuff through LVH also.  I'm also a volunteer firefighter in my community and have been involved there since I am 14.  I'm kinda busy.

As far as WLS, I looked into it about 4 years ago or so and wasn't so sure about it, didn't feel comfortable with the whole program, this was at Easton Hospital.  Fast forward a few years and I looked into the LVH program and knew it was for me.  Overweight my whole life, food addiction issues, your story is my story.

Working on my exercise and improving every day.  Fell in love with this message board and might be addicted.  You are all amazing and I'm convinced you are all a large part of my success.

That's it, going to bed....
