scrambled egg

Hi all, Hope your holiday isn't becoming too frenzied! I tried some scrambled egg today, that was an hour ago and it is sitting like a rock on my breast bone.  My question is, when does this get easier?  It has been since the 10th, today is the 23rd, so 13 days, tomorrow 2 weeks.  My doctor said I could try a little egg, I didn't think he would steer me wrong.  Also, does anyone else get absolutely exhausted by eating or drinking?  I'm so tired after I eat I could drop.  Oh well, no more complaints!  All my wrapping is done.  I'm off to wal mart with the girlies to get some ingredients to make the cake for Christmas.  No one in my family seems to feel the need to take that chore off me, so, so be it, I will make it.  It will be  yummy too, so there! Love you all, Leslie

Wow - you are brave, going to Wal Mart 2 days before Christmas! I am jealous that you are finished wrapping...I haven't even started!

Anyway, I'm not sure that I tried an egg at your stage, but I've always done very well with them. Eggs are one of those "iffy" foods - a lot of people can't tolerate them at all after surgery. I would wait another week or so, stick to your normal foods (yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, things like that) and try an egg again. Eating is definitely exhausting for the first few weeks after surgery - it does get better! Happy Holidays!

OK so it isn't  just me feeling so tired.  That's good to know.  What about getting car sick?  Did any of you have trouble with riding in a car? I feel awful just going to the grocery store and I have to face a 2 hour drive to Cambridge, MA tomorrow.  UGH

I do really well with eggs.  I always add a slice of cheese too.  Sometimes it is too much and I cant fini****  That is what I think is strange.  I cant even finish an egg.....  WOW! Sometimes I get that feeling that things wont go down.  Try something warm.  I find I can get more water down if it is warm, (decaf tea, SF hot chocolate).   Good Luck, and Happy Holidays... Jen

The first time I had egg I scrambled it with some cheese - then ran it through the magic bullet.  It came out the consistancy of a custard - I had no trouble eating it.   Today I decided I was sick of the pureed food - tried something soft - had a grilled cheese sandwich.  I cut it up into small squares and chewed it very well - it was so good and I tolerated it very well   I'm thinking of having some salmon for Christmas dinner while the others have their prime rib  Pam ps - happy holidays to you all :)

I figured I would try some of the mashed potato and cauliflower tomorrow night, that should be ok.  I've been putting my SF Carnation breakfast in the microwave and calling it hot chocolate.  It does go down better that way ;)

Hi Leslie,  I havent had that problem with eggs, but I have gotten that "stuck" feeling a few times and I've even had to have it come back up a few times. I've found that no matter how well I chew it broccoli always gets stuck which is sad, because I love broccoli. I've actually just gotten where I can finish a scrambled egg, and thats usually in the evening, I seem to be able to eat more at night than I can during the day. In the mornings, I only can finish about 1/2 a scrambled egg.

As for the exhaustion, I stayed soooo tired the first 3-4 weeks, now I have a lot more energy so it will get better. I spent the entire day out shopping yesterday, I left at 10am and didnt get home until 7pm! Theres no way I could have done that 2 weeks ago. I have to go back out this morning, I have one more present to take care of and then I'm done! YAY!
