Your opinion?
Hi Everyone! I'm still waiting for a surgery date.. and it seems like it's going to happen in Febuary. I'm trying to decide if I should switch to part-time status in my graduate program and take it really easy this semester. How was your recovery after surgery? Would it have helped to have a lot of time off (three months)? I worry about my adjustment the post op diet/exercise plan and integrating that into my VERY hectic interning schedule (9am-10pm m-f), on top of writing thesis.
Thanks!!
I think a lot depends on you, I have a very high pain tolerance and thought I would be ready to go back to work very quickly but I needed 3 weeks. It wasnt the pain, but rather the exhaustion that I needed more time off. I was sooo tired for the first few weeks.
I would say, give yourself more time if possible, you may not need it, but then again you may.
I would say after a week or so I started to feel pretty good... tired but good. I'm not sure how much physical exertion you will need for your interning schedule. I do know I was (still am) very tired 3 1/2 weeks later. I will be going back to work a week from today (with Dr.'s permission - I don't think it will be an issue) and I feel that is just enough time.
Good luck and keep us posted
Pam
I went back 6 days after and wished I had taken more time. You will be tired. Writing a thesis is a big deal. It can drain your reserves. I was pretty healthy when I wrote mine and I almost had a nevrous breakdown between thesis, full time job, 2 toddlers and community work. Only you know what you can handle. If you have ever had surgery before or just been really sick (flu, strep etc)? It leaves you feeling like a old dish rag. If you can give yourself the time, do it. You can always keep up on the reading for your classes and thesis. Good Luck.
