Hi All, Would like some feedback about Dr. Roye,  in the beginning I thought I was making a good choice with Dr Roye and I 'm scheduled for lap band surgery 3/5....But from  reading a variety of blogs looks like he does not schedule fills as often as other doctors or as often as the many books I have read have said.  Also did not get a very good feeling meeting with the nurse pract last time I was there.    Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

He's the best in the business and has done more than 750 laporoscopic surgeries. He has an incredible record. Kathleen, his nurse practioner, is really helpful and informative. Dr. Roye works in the same office as Dr. David Harrington, who is now the chief of surgery for RIH and has passed his baton to Dr. Roye. He is in the OR every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. All of his office appointment take place on Mondays and Fridays. I would trust your first instict and stay with him. You won't regret it.

Thanks Sara for the quick response,  when I finally met with him he didn't do much talking and he was in and out of the room in less than 5 minutes!   I had heard some many good things about him it did leave me a little disappointed.  I must have caught him on a bad day.  I will consider you advise.  Thanks, Joyce

Hi,

I had a chance to meet Dr. Roye at the monthly meeting on 2/6/2008.  He's not my doctor, Dr. Ryder is.  He was very personable and easy to talk to.  I have heard only good things about him.   I understand your feelings about the front end workers, I had my own experience with my doctor's secretary.   Since, I like Dr. Ryder and found her to be easy to talk with, I over-looked the front-end workers.

Hi Robin, Thank you for the input.  Hopefully I will get to meet that side of him soon.  I  too had heard wonderful things about him and that is why I decided to start this journey with him as my doctor. Did you meet him at a support meeting , if so is it  the meetings held at the Gerry House?  I would like to start attending support meetings but have been undecided on where to go. Thanks, Joyce

Hi Joyce,

Yes, I did meet him at the monthly meeting and they hold them at the Gerry House.   I find the meetings very helpful, and you get to meet others face to face.   It's a added bonus having the meetings and the support received on this message board.  Hope to see in March for the next meeting.

Robin

Hi, I am planning on attending a meeting before my surgery and it looks like the next one coming up will be at Roger Williams,  since my surgery is scheduled 3/5 I will not be able to make the next meeting at the Gerry House but the following month I would like to attend a meeting there.  Looking forward to meeting all the great wl supporters! You will probably see Dr. Roye every 4-8 weeks. He will tell you whether or not a fill is necessary.  It will depend on how your weight loss is, if you are eating correctly and how your exercising is going.  I am so glad I chose him, he has been there throughout my uphill battles. I just got a fill this morning,   I think you will be satisfied.

Hi NancyJean, Thank you for your response.  After reading yours, Sarah's and Robin's posts I am feeling more confident that I have chosen correctly. How many fills does that total for you and are you happy that you have made the lap band choice?  Thanks, Joyce

I have had 6, but don't let that scare you, I ended up having to get unfilled because of another problem. He filled me Friday back up to my highest fill which is 2.5 CC in my 4 CC band.  It took a couple of visits to get back up there, He doesn't fill itt all at one visit.  I feel great.  I am very happy with my decision to have the lap-band.
