weight gain
Judi and newjen,
thanks for your imput--that makes me feel much better. hopefully, whatever my body retains as a result of exercise will come out eventually (if not, i'll retaliate further by stepping up exercise even more tomorrow--i'm going to join the gym finally and add some strength training, ab training, and elliptical trainer cardio into my routine while staying under 1,200 cal day.) someday, my body will just stop torturing me and will give up that excess weight.:) will keep you guyd posted
.
o.k., so i'm 143.5 this morning, down a pund from last night but still up 2 lbs from 2 days ago. grrr
if that's my body's way of freaking out on me, i'll work out until i tire it into submission damn it!!!
i walked 17 mile in 2 days and ate well (except for the salty veggie cravings but that's just sodium, not the calories) and have insomnia on top of that, i deserve to see the 130s soon:)!!!!
You know how they say to go shoe shopping at the end of the day? Its because you feet may swell from fluid retention.
Bodies naturally go up and down around 5lbs in a given day.. you typically will not weigh the same at the end of the day as in the beginning... thats why its suggested to weigh at the same time of day prefferably in the morning.
Also keep in mind things such as hormones and salt can cause the scale to go up and down.
More than likely its jus****er weight...

If you don't eat enough calories to support your physical activity, your body will hold on to every bit of energy it can get. You should be eating MORE, not less when you are walking/working out, etc. Every time I do what you describe, I 'gain' (which is a false impression since it takes 3500 extra calories to gain a pound in a week, which is about 500 per day and you're nowhere close to that, nor am I). When I up my calories to better match my workout, I lose.
You are actually doing yourself far more harm than good by limiting the calories so much and walking to that extent. Check a calorie calculator and find out what your optimal daily intake is, what your 'maintenance' caloric level is and what your minimum level is. That will help you eat more approrpiately.
FWIW, I do not lose when I eat less than 1500 calories per day now. I have tracked it extensively. Working out-eat more. Simple as that.
edited to add--once you up those calories, the water weight that you are retaining will whoosh away in a matter of days. I went down four pounds in two days once I got my calories up to a more sensible leve.

obmik,
thanks, you are probably right. i guess i just have a bit too much time on my hands all over sudden (i just moved and taking some time off work to re-group, long story) and am stressed on top of that. i was very ill physically and basically bedridden for a few months before that (nothing to do w/bypass) and not exercising at all. now that i fell better than i have in a long time, i've all over sudden discovered exercise is a good way to deal with stress...always hated it, even when i was really thin, now all over sudden i can't get enough of it.
terri,
you are right, i'm probably retaining water. i wore my mom's old size 3-4 jeans Express jeans today in place of my normal size 5-6 just to make myself feel better/skinnier. i was able to zip them up(barely) but with all the water i'm apparently retaining i feel and look like a baloon at the Macy's day parade:)
i've heard of water retention before but never really experienced it in my 32 years until now. ironically, this happened just as i suddenly started to eat better and exercise more. go figure.
if you don't mind me asking, how long before the 13lbs. you mentioned came off?
