Victoza after RNY
I googled it and one of the contra-indications was:
have severe problems with your stomach, such as slowed emptying of your stomach or problems with digesting food;
I know this is not us per se, but an altered digestive system may be a problem too, Also the possibility of thyroid cancer and/or severe pancreatitis would make me questions how necessary this particular medication was and if there was an alternative!
I would definitely have a chat with my doctor and/or a pharmacist before committing to taking this drug.

Victoza is great. YO\ou have a perfect A1c with it, and usually lose 20-30 pounds over a few months.
BUT>>> if you are constipated, you may not like it. The reason people lose weight is Victoza slows transit through the digestive tract, so you would feel full, and be unable to eat for about 4-5 hours. Slow transit does not mean constipation automatically, and some people have diarrhea when they first start.
A solution would be to use the Victoza and increase fat in the diet.
Good luck.

I was put on Victoza before my RNY, and lost 15 pounds in 6 weeks. I actually felt full for the first time in my life!! My endocrinologist had me stop taking the shots the week before my RNY, so I'm sorry I can't give you any information regarding post op side effects.
The first week I took Victoza I had some issues with loose stool, no cramping or discomfort.....just a marked change. It was worse when I ate something fatty.
I have heard it compared to a pharmaceutical lap band, I really did notice a difference in being full during meals. Whether or not this will be true in your case because of the RNY, pyloric valve missing from your pouch and all that, I don't know.
I wouldn't worry about the thyroid cancer warning too much....so far only appears in rats, not humans and they have been using Victoza in Europe for years and years.
Good luck! I hope it helps you.

I'm currently taking victoza. Its my second week. I have lost 5 pounds in little over a week. But the side effects are awful. Diarreah,gas, headaches,dizzyness,runny nose, soar throat, cough, body aches but my blood sugars have improved greatly. Hopefully the side effects go away once my body gets used to it. Metphormin was not working anymore since gaining about 40lbs.
