I'm in the process of getting a distal revision. With my original rny, my surgeon bypassed 150 cm intestine, because of my 50 BMI. I lost weight very slowly and stopped at 18 months. At 2 years out, I began to gain weight (and very hungry) on 1600 calories. (I would need to eat 1050 calories to weigh 160 lbs) Anyway with the distal, I will get a 150 cm common channel and keep some of the malabsorption.  I was wondering how long your common channel is and if you've having any problems with diarrhrea?  I've had chronic constipation most of my life and hoping this will resolve that.

I just called my surgeon's office to have them check my chart because BMI was 63. Unfortunately, CT wa**** with a bad snow storm & they are closed today. I will try again tomorrow. Now I really want to know.

I remember back in the late eighties and early nineties they had distal, medial, and proximal and the surgeon decided based on amount of weight the patient needed to lose. The further down the better the weight loss but the more nutritional deficiencies.  We would get a fair share of distals on TPN

What's TPN?

It's when you get your nutrition through an IV. When you can't take nutrition by mouth.

Oh wow! Thanks for explaining that to me. That must be terrible to go through.
