Hard Time Exercising

One year out and having a hard time getting motivated to exercise. I went to Tokyo for three weeks at Christmas and haven't been regularly exercising since I got home. How important is exercise to your overall success with weightloss surgery? Feeling pretty guilty but obviously not guilty enough?

Weight loss is mostly what we put in our mouths, the exercise is for our health and keeping it off... at least that is my understanding. I have been struggling with the cold of winter. One of my FB groups has had a 21 day challenge for 1/2 hour a day. Some days like today I set the timer for 30 minutes and just dance and do exercises... other days I go walking at the mall, went to Zumba, or did an exercise DVD. I am just doing what I can on any given day. You can do it...

Your ticker says you have 3 lbs to go? If so, set a non scale goal and go for it

I didn't know you could make a non scale goal. That's a great idea.

Okay to clarify my last post, I thought you meant I could make a non scale "t****r". Of course, I know that we can make non scale goals.

The KEY is finding something you love to do, then it doesn't feel like exercise.  For me, it's dancing, swimming, and cruising big-box-store aisles.  I have tried to fall in love with cleaning; so far no luck.  Maybe someone else will share in order to give you some ideas.

I'm not a lover of exercise.  It has always been an "I have to" versus "I want to" but.....

One of my knees has given out.  I've had pain just in walking.  I tried the injections but nothing worked since I was bone on bone.

A few weeks ago I had a total knee replacement.  It has been very difficult and painful but I can already tell a difference.  That will only get better.

Now I'm looking forward to "getting" to exercise.  For me, having it taken away makes me appreciate it more.

My favorite is walking.  Taking walks (weather permitting) but mostly on my treadmill.  I plug in my favorite tunes and go.  I don't think you can exercise away unhealthy bad food choices.  I believe that it helps maintain weight loss and tone your body to make it more healthy.

I am very active, but do not exercise per se. I estimate exercise is no more than 10% of weight loss. Probably more like 5%.

Exercise is great for health and feeling well, but not for losing weight.

What do you do that keeps you so active?

I have three houses to take care of. Mowing, raking, shoveling, maintenance. I walk everywhere -- a mile to the market, 2 miles to the library. I walk all the aisles in the market when I go. When I drive, I park as far away as I can. I have physical hobbies. Generally, I just keep moving as much as I can.
